MONDO EXTRAS
Tubey Awards: Most Memorable TV Moments
You Gotta Have Faith
Lost, "There's No Place Like Home," May 29, 2008
I love Lost. I do. But the show can get on your left nut with all its unexplained shenanigans. There's the smoke monster, the Others, Jack's dad popping up all over the place, Jacob, and then those darn polar bears. You could end up bald from all the head scratching. While the Others eventually became cast members, the polar bears and Ol' Smokey were left hanging out there, unexplained. Floating question marks that made perfect fodder for all the Lost haters to whip out and smack fans around the face whenever they talked about the show around the old water-cooler. So my favorite television moment came during the season finale when Ben entered The Orchid, opened a hidden door, and we finally got our explanation for the polar bears. Sort of. Honestly I don't remember what the exact reasoning was behind the polar bears, but that's not the point. The point is that the writers cared enough about the viewers to go back and tie up a rather flagrant loose end. In a show that has a lot of haters, doubters, and former fans, it's nice to think that the writers are there for the believers. The people who knew there was a reason for a damn polar bear to be on a tropical island. We always believed in the writers. We just had to wait four seasons to have our faith confirmed. -- Lulu Bates
