The crazy geniuses/mad men behind South Park have put up full episodes of all their shows from the last 12 seasons on their site (Yes, even the recent Britney Spears makeover episode). Since I'm sure I'll get fired for laughing too hard while watching the "Ginger Kids" (Season 9) installment again at work, I'm not sure this is such a good idea. Sure Trey Parker and Matt Stone set about this in order to get traffic to their own site instead of having people just watch their work on youtube or the like for free, but seriously, with the proliferation of shows available on the internet via Hulu or network specific sites, is there really any reason to buy DVDs anymore? Or now that the writers get a cut of the online streaming profits, do DVDs not matter so much? Does no one else like to have the walls of their living room lined with colorful boxes that are filled with commentary tracks? Am I soon going to be akin to one of those people who insist on LPs instead of CDs or MP3s because the sounds quality is so much better? Potential firing aside, I should in all rights be happy that I can now spend my free time watching South Park legally without having to get up off my lazy duff and put it into the DVD player. But something just doesn't feel right about it. Like Officer Barbrady is going to come bust me for not spending my cash on the DVDs. But for now I guess free is good... or at least that's what we've been lead to believe all these years. Right?
