Guess who watched simulated oral sex before her morning coffee just to bring you an incisive write up of Showtime's new Secret Diary of a Call Girl (premiering June 16th)? That's right, me. Myself and several other TWoP editors gathered round the tube to watch the first episode of the randy British show, which we've since re-dubbed Man Ass due to its propensity for showing all manner of male backside [thanks to Zach for coining the moniker]. Here are some thoughts/predictions, in no particular order:
• Billie Piper looks like a hot rabbit. With really good hair. And her "hooker" bedroom? So cute! If liking her Bordello-By-Jonathan Adler aesthetic is wrong, I don't want to be right.
• Being that I'm not a "working gal," I can't say how accurate a depiction of the lifestyle the show provides. I can say that as a female member of the species, I can assure you that regardless of the number of Sparks I've slurped down on any given night or how stoked I am on the new Goldfrapp album, I do not roll around on my bed affecting a music video montage. So points deducted for furthering the myth that hot chicks like to writhe around in their skivvies for kicks. It just ain't true. Sorry dudes.
• This program shows promise as a cultural force to be reckoned with. It's stylish, well shot, well written and funny (sometimes). What SATC was to Manolos, frank sex talk and Cosmos this show will be to Agent Provocateur lingerie, recreational hooking (mark my words) and British slang.
• Snaps for working the word "palindrome" into the first episode. Those Brits are so literate and classy, even when they're giving and receiving pleasure.
