In the world of dancing competitions shows So You Think You Can Dance is my first love, but America's Best Dance Crew is moving up and finishing a close second lately. The thing that I enjoy about both of them? Aside from the fact that they both involve Shane Sparks... is that they expect their people to be talented and rise to challenges, unlike say Dancing With the Stars where the celebrities need to be coddled until they are passable, or Master of Dance where the talentless are celebrated for merely being able to shake their ass to the tune of the music. On my favorite shows nobody contenders become household names by seriously tearing up the dance floor.
Last night America's Best Dance Crew (I refuse to put in the full Randy Jackson title since it drives me banoodles) officially premiered (I'm a little bummed that I missed the live audition special!!! TiVo totally didn't tell me) and they are already off to a hot start. While last season I loved winners Jabbawockeez from the get go, I'm still making up my mind who my favorites are, but after the first episode I adore the Boogie Bots. OK, maybe I just dig their name, but whatever, I'll probably change my mind about four times before the end.
In addition to seeing some of the hottest moves on TV, I am also learning some new slang courtesy of Lil' Mama who told Fanny Pak that they were "slept on." Apparently this is a good thing as it means overlooked and she's trying to put the spotlight on them. Who knew an MTV show could be so educational?
Will ABDC be able to surpass SYTYCD in the reality dancing realm of awesomeness by the end of the summer? Probably not, SYTYCD's acronym has more letters and has the insanely cute Cat Deeley hosting, while ABDC has Mario Lopez trying desperately hard to be hip, but my TiVo can handle recording both so the more the merrier! Now, bring on the pop and lockers!
