Now the music channel's reality-TV heavy older sister VH1 has announced it will be taking a nostalgic look back at... the decade we haven't even finished yet! That's right, in June we'll welcome the latest addition to the franchise, I Love the New Millennium. Hello you guys, it's half way through 2008. Don't get me wrong, I totally adore the I Love the [Insert Decade Here] series. Any excuse to reexamine Gary Coleman and Rainbow Brite and shit is fine by me. But I thought even I Love the '90s was a bit premature. Much like my peers, I have the attention span of a hopped-up monkey and major short-term memory loss caused by years of recreational drug use and excessive drinking. But is it really necessary for us to reminisce about what happened five seconds ago? I enjoy the rapid turnover of pop culture documentation (Last Night's Party, Best Week Ever and more recently Best Day Ever) as much as the next guy, but our frenzied compulsion to sentimentalize about (and subsequently dispose of) pop culture events a nanosecond after they happen is a bit much, even for me. What's next, a show called Remember This Morning?
