BLOGS
Today is going to be a good day. I can just tell. You know why? In addition to Brenda Walsh hauling her ass back to 90210, Tom O'Neil's posting the rumored Emmy finalists for drama actress and actor and the lists include some of the very people I've been hoping and praying for. Can anyone say Mary McDonnell and Kyle Chandler? Sure, just because they are on this list doesn't mean they'll actually get nominated, but the fact that there's a chance in hell makes me so beyond happy that I am practically jumping out of my seat!
For chivalry's sake, let's do the ladies first, shall we? In addition to the magnificent Mary McDonnell, Elisabeth Moss (the spunkiest little Mad woman ever, who I just so happen to be schedule to talk to later today) needs to be nominated. Her Peggy Draper is just a sight to behold. Have I mentioned how incredible Mad Men is? It's on DVD now ... there are officially no excuses for not watching it. The rest of the list is filled with some heavy hitters: Sally Field (awesome), Glenn Close (amazing), Kyra Sedgwick (that accent drives me nuts, but I still like her), Holly Hunter (I don't get the show, but she's doing something on it that adds up to some amazing acting) and Jeanne Tripplehorn (any woman that can be the matriarch in that twisted Big Love family deserves some kind of award). Patricia Arquette is fine on Medium, as is Mariska Hargitay on SVU, either of them would be fine candidates for an Emmy nom. The only one that I personally would hate to see get a nod is Minnie Driver. I know there are people that like The Riches. I am not one of them, and she's the main reason why. And I'm so happy not to see Evangeline Lilly or Ellen Pompeo's names on this list. Not really stellar seasons for either of them and they were rightly shut out.
Now on to the guys. As I mentioned before I'm psyched about Kyle Chandler. Yay! However, there is only one name on this list that doesn't really belong here (James Spader, I'm looking in your general direction), so I'm a little bit skeptical about his odds for getting in to the final five. How do I pick between Jon Hamm and Michael C. Hall? I can't. That's why I'm not on the nominating committee. Gabriel Byrne, Denis Leary, Hugh Laurie, Bryan Cranston, McDreamy ... my cup runneth over with this bevy of talented actors. Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson and Sara Ramirez are the only reasons that I even keep watching Grey's Anatomy, so yay for Mr. Dempsey. Eddie Izzard is kind of a tough sell for me. I adore him. Think his stand up is wicked funny, but The Riches is just painful. As for the missing in action, I'm a little surprised to see Peter Krause from Dirty Sexy Money off the list, and I would have been even giddier if Edward James Olmos were in contention, but I'll take what I can get with that show and if it is a little BSG love for the commander-in-chief, then so be it.
