Dr. Horrible's Grand Entrance It's finally here! The first installment of Joss Whedon's online action musical, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, debuted last night, and oh, it was glorious! We couldn't get the official website to load over here, but fortunately it's also available (for the standard $1.99) on iTunes, so don't get discouraged if you can't watch it online.

The first act is indeed a lot of fun and it made me laugh out loud several times, but I do have one teensy complaint: despite the title, it is not a sing-along in the traditional sense. There are no lyrics on the screen with a bouncing dot, which, right or wrong is what I expected. But perhaps I'm too literal. Anyway, back to the fun stuff!

Neil Patrick Harris is officially cemented in the "this dude can do no wrong" category with this, as far as I'm concerned. I've never seen him be anything but hysterically funny and now I know he can sing?! He also shills Old Spice as brilliantly as Bruce Campbell did to boot, and how many guys can you say that about? One, that's how many. It's just Neil Patrick Harris. He's the only one.

Joss Whedon all-star Nathan Fillion is also hunky and adorable as Dr. Horrible's arch nemesis, Captain Hammer, who the Doc describes as Captain Hammer: Corporate Tool, and who I describe as Captain Hammer: Prospective girlfriend-stealer and gun show ticket holder. Basically he's genius, and every time I see his charming mug I want to punch Kate in the face for breaking his heart on Lost. But then again, when do I not want to punch Kate in the face?

Other episode 1 highlights include: Singing cowboys! Bank heists! Slapstick! Something called The Evil League of Evil! And homeless shelter petitions! OK, the last one isn't that exciting, but a little do-gooding never hurt anyone. Besides, as Doctor Horrible says, "The status quo is not quo! The world is a mess, and I just... need to rule it." - only he says it funny. You try it. Bet you can't do it like Doogie.

BTW, Angel has done a fabulously more detailed recap you can read here. Episodes 2 and 3 will be released on Thursday and Saturday, and we'll have full recaps for both.
