I Don't Understand It, But I Hate It

You know when you read a wacky news item that makes you think, "Hey! Is it April Fool's day or something?!" but it's totally not because it's July? That happened to me today when I read this Hollywood Reporter piece of nonsense about Freddie Prinze Jr. landing a mysterious behind-the-scenes job at World Wresting Entertainment. Yes, you read that right. World. Wrestling. Entertainment. Some quotes therein and what is wrong with them:

This is The Hollywood Reporter: "Freddie Prinze Jr. has taken on a behind-the-scene role on World Wrestling Entertainment's creative team."

This is me: "I don't understand one single thing that's going on in that sentence."

This is The Hollywood Reporter: "Prinze will contribute to WWE's weekly TV and monthly pay-per-view programs."

This is me: "In what capacity? Is he hosting something, or what? How could Buffy let this happen?"

This is The Hollywood Reporter: "Chris McCumber, executive vp marketing digital & brand strategy at USA Network, which airs WWE programming, added: 'Bringing on board an experienced Hollywood writer, actor and producer like Freddie Prinze Jr. --'"

This is me: "Wait, what? Freddie Prinze Jr. is not a writer or a producer. I'm pretty sure. And why are there so many words, letters and capitalizations left out of this story? 'behind-the-scene'? 'executive vp marketing'? Is this writer drunk or something? Maybe he drunk-dreamt this whole thing. That's my hope. I wonder if the Prinze was thinking about wrestling the whole time he made She's All That, and I just didn't see it. If he loves wrestling so much, maybe he should marry it. No! Poor Buffy!"

My brain pretty much jumped the tracks at that point. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find a She's All That clip that most indicates Freddie Prinze Jr.'s secret love of pro wrestling. If only we knew back then.
