CSI Cowboys Up, and Other Stories

Here at TwoP.com, we like to keep up on the latest casting news, so we can squeal with glee whenever we see the name of somebody we recognize. Well, I squealed with glee three times this morning, and it's not even lunch yet. Here's a few interesting tidbits, involving Pee-Wee Herman, the Devil and Peter Brady... and no, they're not the same story.

- According to the Hollywood Reporter, Laurence Fishburne is in talks to replace William "Beardy" Petersen when he leaves CSI. Fishburne's role is described as "a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses," which means we should expect Fishburne to have a lot of homicidal impulses. Kurt Russell and John Malkovich were both being considered for the role, as well, but Fishburne obviously beat them out because of his extensive television experience -- namely, playing Cowboy Curtis on Pee-Wee's Playhouse in the late 1980s. Here's hoping his character wears black-and-white spotted chaps and has to solve the baffling murder of visiting dignitary the King of Cartoons.

- The Tudors recently announced the addition of R&B singer Joss Stone to the cast of the third season, and fans of acting were stunned into silence. But now people who like a certain acting-ness in their Tudors actors can rejoice, because Variety has reported that Max Von Sydow (The Exorcist, Minority Report, The frickin' Seventh Seal) will join the show as Cardinal Von Waldburg, who is trying to remove Henry VIII from the throne. "Cardinal Von Waldburg" joins the long list of evil-sounding names of characters Sydow has played, including "Leland Gaunt" (Needful Things), "Ming the Merciless" (Flash Gordon) and "Max Von Sydow" (numerous documentaries).

- And last, but not least, Christopher Knight -- whom America fell in love with on The Brady Bunch (where he played Peter) and whom America's (first) Next Top Model Adrianne Curry fell in love with on VH1's The Surreal Life -- has gotten himself a legitimate job. That is, if you consider hosting a game show based on a board game legitimate. This fall, he'll be playing the Bob Barker role on Trivial Pursuit: America Plays, which needed a subtitle for some reason, I guess in case audiences think they're going to be tuning in to watch Knight play a round with his wife, whom we've all seen naked. Hmm... Naked Trivial Pursuit. Doesn't Playboy have a TV channel?
