I don't know how I missed this, but apparently Bob Saget has a new CW series set to premiere this fall! Why am I excited?! I honestly don't know, but I am for some reason. Yes, I know, I should be ashamed, and believe me I am, but I can't help it! I'm a sucker for Saget! Oh god, this post has taken a wrong turn. Let's get back on track. The show is called Surviving Suburbia, and also stars the fabulous Cynthia Stevenson (the bitchy mom in Dead Like Me, and the gloriously bitchy homo-hatin' yuppie and wife of The Gutte in Home for the Holidays -- love her!), as a married couple trying to, umm, survive suburbia. So, as Wayne Campbell would say, it's not just a clever name.
Saget's character is a reclusive guy who just wants to be completely left alone by society, while Stevenson will play... his wife. No more info was given on her, but who wants to hear about the old ball and chain, am I right, people?! Anyway, Stevenson has always been careful and smart about her project choices in the past, so I'm sure her character is very compelling (and probably bitchy as hell, given her track record). I don't know about you, but the idea of the guy who formerly played the perfect father archetype playing some suburbia-hating hermit is interesting to me (plus, Wikipedia calls the show the "male Roseanne" - OMG!).
My only worry (besides the CW's incompetence when it comes to sitcoms) is that Saget probably can't match Stevenson's acting chops, and since they're playing a married couple who don't like talking to other people, they're probably going to have a lot of one-on-one scenes. These scenes could be pretty painful, but then again, is Roseanne Barr as good an actor as John Goodman? Of course not, but they definitely made it work on the "female Roseanne." If anyone can find a way, it's Saget.

I'm trying but it's NOT funny. Once again the parents are smarter than the children, the laugh track is annoying, the jokes? Well, they are attempting jokes but I have snickered once and twenty minutes into the first show I'm not giving this one high hopes for staying on tv.

After the "jokes" with the horny neighbor I'm actually cringing. The show has gone from bad to worse.
