Still TRL is where the world got introduced (for better or worse) to Carson Daly. (Compared to the omnipresent Ryan Seacrest, Daly doesn't seem so terrible... just dull). And it's where we got to witness some great meltdowns. I, for one, will truly miss pushing my way through the teenage hordes who crowd around 1515 Broadway in Times Square to catch a glimpse of the Jonas Brothers or Diddy or whoever is hot these days while I'm trying to get home. It's become a fun guessing game for me to figure out who the guest was just judging by the fans standing outside. And I love sharing a commiserating look with the security guards who have to explain to the teens that they really need to try not to get hit by taxis and stay out of the way of people just trying to make the evening commute.

I should have known that the show wasn't long for this world when my mom stopped watching recently. Not sure why she tuned out, but if I was walking home complaining about the gaggle of girls, she'd be like, "Oh, Justin Timberlake was on TRL today." She claimed she liked to watch so she'd know what I was talking about, but I worry that she was one of the people texting.

I'm sure there'll be lots of posts about how this is just another sign that MTV doesn't actually play videos any more... and well, I've been griping about that for years and Igiven up. I'll just watch them on the internet. It's easier... and more effective than trying to get MTV to listen to me, which hasn't worked well at all.

So long TRL, you'll be missed when you sign off in November ... by someone. Probably a teenager who puts lots of hearts in her screen name.
