Ugh! Stupid TV producers cashing in on The Devil Wears Prada all over the damned place. Why now for the love of Gucci? Hot on the heels -- see what I did there? -- of a spate of fashion mag-related reality shows (see Stylista and Vogue's web series Model.Live) comes news that the Style Network will host a new show called .... wait for it ... Running In Heels, which will provide a fascinating in-depth look at what goes on behind closed doors in the esteemed offices of ... wait for it... Marie Claire. I mean, don't get me wrong, I've flipped through Marie Claire a coupla times and it's totally a fine magazine. But I sort of file it in the same category as Redbook, i.e. lady mags for the over-forty soccer mom set. You know what I mean -- like, it's something I'll pick up in the airport if I've already read Vogue and Elle and Allure and all the gossip rags and I'm desperate for something amusing and girly and mind-numbingly vapid.

Anyway, my point is, do people really effing care what goes down at the offices of Marie Claire? I know enough about the magazine industry to know that certainly places less well-regarded than Vogue still have their fair share of drama and diva attitude, but somehow the appeal just isn't the same. As the fine folks at Jezebel pointed out, these types of shows never really end up showing you what you really want to see, namely what sorts of office politics are really going on (beyond the broad stroke Miranda Priestley archetypes that the producers pretty much fabricate for the sake of the cameras), which celebs are pains in the arse to deal with and how much Photoshopping goes in to the cover photos. You know, the nitty gritty! So forgive me if I'm not too friggin' effusive about this. I'm still biding my time for when the Hills spin-off featuring PR Bitch par excellence Kelly Cutrone debuts -- now there's a woman who's for real. And by for real, I mean an evil nightmare diva succubus. Otherwise known as made for reality TV!
