BLOGS
We're not usually big on the whole who's having a baby, who's not having a baby sort of gossip over here in Telefile land, but when it comes to Alyson Hannigan, it's a whole 'nother story. Mostly because we, OK, I, am worried about what will happen if a baby gets written into How I Met Your Mother... and because a baby that is the product of two Buffy alumni (Hannigan is married to Alexis Denisof, for those non-Buffy obsessed people in the world out there) is just the most awesome thing ever. Do you think it will come out with a little stake in its hand? Will it be a grow up to be a rogue demon hunter like daddy or a lesbian witch like its mommy?
Sorry, geekiness took over for a minute. That happens a lot. I am really excited for Alyson Hannigan as a person, but a little concerned about what it will mean for HIMYM. If they decide to write in Hannigan's pregnancy to the show, will it still be funny? Lots of comedies have tried and failed to successfully bring a kid into a show and make it entertaining. God, Friends got so much more annoying with kids, as did Sex and the City.
It hasn't been announced yet if they'll write it in, or if they'll just do a "Hey kids, there was this one time when Aunt Lily gained a hell of a lot of weight and looked like Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" storyline instead. But considering that when I talked to Carter Bays he hinted that there were big changes afoot for Marshall and Lily's relationship, and there was that whole thing recently about Lily not drinking her $2,500 dollar scotch, could a baby be a possibility? Since the entire premise of the show is about meeting a woman who will then spawn FutureTed's two kids, children should probably be expected. And if any show could deal with kids it is this one. I mean, FutureTed doesn't need to spend all his time dwelling on Marshall and Lily's baby. He jumps around and picks and chooses his stories. He can choose to tell the ones that don't involve changing diapers, sleepless nights, or natural childbirth. If that's the case, then count me in. I've got enough baby stuff in real life, and I look to this Barney/Robin Sparkles/sexy show to escape from that.
Although, I am kind of curious to find out what a couple who cutely refers to each other as Marshmallow and Lilypad, will name their baby. Your thoughts? Sound off below.
