So I finally got around to watching the Style network show The Dish. Yes, I realize that it premiered over the summer, and I do normally seek out stuff featuring Topanga (I don't think I'll ever be able to call Danielle Fishel by her real name), but I swear it took me this long to discover that I even had the Style network on my cable lineup (we've got some crazy system with too many stations and half of them are in high-def, foreign languages or involve sports). Anyway, I finally found it and watched, and it is amusing and filled with clips and highlights of the latest and greatest happenings, and Topanga reading off funny little jokey commentary. But (and this is a really big but... not implying that Topanga has a fat ass, just saying... well, you know what I mean) it is exactly, EXACTLY, like The Soup, except with Topanga instead of Joel McHale. It has the same tone, the same look, the same random fake cheering in the background, the same sort of send offs. I mean. If I hadn't known better, or tuned in during the middle, I would have thought that Topanga was subbing for Joel while he was on vacation.
I realize the networks have the same larger parent company, so no lawsuit will be a-brewing, but it really surprised me how identical in format they were, especially with the canned or random intern laughter. I'd love to see a showdown between Topanga and Joel; maybe Cory Matthews could officiate. He can't be busy.
That said, Topanga's not bad. I mean, she's clearly reading off cue cards, but she might have found herself a new career in this hosting business. Now if they could only find a vehicle for a Rider Strong comeback. Anyway, check out the clips from both shows below, and then tell us if you think they are remarkably similar, or if I'm just being crazy in order to stir things up. Or if you want to share your love of Rider Strong. That's fine too.

I'm pretty sure it's intentional. I think The Dish is supposed to be the style version of The Soup, and there's also a sports version out there somewhere. The Soup is a franchise, apparently. (In fact, I'm pretty sure I read this right here on TWOP's very own boards.)
I just discovered The Dish as well, Angel. I knew about it but had never seen it - and I'm glad I caught it this weekend. I hadn't realized how much I missed the Boy Meets World crowd. Rider Strong def needs to make his way back to my tv screen.
Rider Strong was awesome on the short-lived Pepper Dennis. I see why the show ended, but for his sake it was too bad that it did.
