Well, that does it, I guess. When I posted the new Dollhouse trailer yesterday, I mentioned that it ends with a vague "Coming soon to Fox" in lieu of an official premiere date, but just assumed it was still coming in January, as was previously planned. Thanks to helpful commenter "Gillaume," who tipped me off that the premiere has been moved to Friday, February 13, with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as its lead-in, which Fox's official site also confirms. I hate to be a buzzkill on a Friday, but that is just the saddest news.
Not only will Dollhouse be a Friday show now, Terminator is being moved to Friday nights as well, I guess to finally die for good. If it's struggling as much as it is on Mondays, I can't even imagine what crap ratings it's going to do on Fridays, I don't care how many antisocial nerds watch it (yes, myself included).
Of course, there is a chance that this timeslot could pan out for one or both of these shows (especially once DVR numbers are factored in), but I can't help but feel like Fox has given up on Dollhouse before it's even begun. What do you think, Whedon and Sarah Connor fans? Are you going to start staying in on Friday nights for your shows?

This is a crap timeslot. Wasn't Firefly on Fridays, too?
Still, I look on the bright side. I don't have cable, and I don't have DVR. I'll be out on Fridays, so I won't watch this show when it airs. But I will watch it online as soon as it airs, and since I work in web analytics, I know that Fox will be able to see that little old me is watching. If I watched it on TV, I likely wouldn't count in the ratings. I know that is my rare case, but not having a Nielson box, I can at least feel like I'm giving the show my support.
I know Friday's are somewhat a curse for shows, but seriously a move from Monday works for me. Like many my Monday is Jam-packed. After DVR'ing and watching Chuck, Heroes, My Own Worst Enemy, and Dancing with the Stars...Keeping up with Terminator is difficult. Another night would make it easier to keep up with.
This is EXACTLY what Fox did to Firefly. This is NOT good news. Why did Fox bother to work with Whedon if they did not want to ive the show decent time slot? Though in a way, all whedonversers will be watching....
I'm home most Fridays anyway, and I would have had to do some serious work to adjust my schedule for Dollhouse on Mondays, so I'm glad its been moved off Monday, but I would rather it be...any of the other 4 options (excluding saturday because that's as bad as friday)
I'm such a huge fan of Whedon's that I would definitely go out of my way for this show (I also can't wait to see some more Faith-caliber butt kicking). Be it online or on Friday nights, I'll be there. I hope enough people feel the same to keep this show alive.
Of course I will watch (or tape) Dollhouse on Friday nights. That is unquestionable. This is Joss's latest project, I'm a big fan of his work, and I want to see what this new one's all about.
However...
I know Joss keeps saying it's okay, but this news feels eeriely like deja vu to me. Firefly went through the same thing, including being pushed to the Friday night dead zone from the very start. Next, the network will be airing the episodes out of order and then wondering why the fans are so pissed off and confused.
Joss, listen. When you keep going back to a network that abuses you, beats you down, and treats your ideas and your talent like worthless crap, you need HELP, man. You, your cast and dedicated crew deserve better than this!
What can we do to kick FOX in the ass and get this project the proper respect and support it deserves? Grr. Argh!
I'm home on Fridays anyway, but I'll TiVo it also.
Seriously, this has nothing to do with what Fox thinks of Dollhouse in my opinion. Starting in 2009 you have 24 taking up a slot on Mondays, two new comedies to be put in sunday's, Americam Idol taking up a slot on tuesday's and wednesday's. If they put it on thursday's it would end up being pulled immediately and there is no 10 o clock time slot's open because of the news. They had nowhere to put it. As far as Terminator, they were going to friday's or Bones was. Im glad it was Terminator. At least I can tivo Terminator on friday's. Im not mad at all.
I have a DVR, so the timeslot doesn't bother me..but I can see how it minimizes the possibilities of live viewing for others, especially in the target age range.
That said, maybe expectations won't be as high and the numbers won't be as fate determining. It reminds me of when FNL began airing on Fridays.
It's too bad that FOX doesn't do the post 10 o'clock thing. It would be perfect on Wednesdays at 10 if it were possible.
nothing in this world would stop me from watching dollhouse! this might even get me started watching sarah connor.
I was also annoyed to see that they are moving House to Mondays... against DWTS and HIMYM!
If I were 9 years old, I'd be so happy. "Sarah Connor" is just the kind of hour show (The Incredible Hulk, CHiPs, Fantasy Island, Emergency, Dukes of Hazard) I'd be looking forward to on Friday nights. But regardless, I will DVR it until it dies.

This seals it: I don't see why Joss keeps going back to a network that he's had so many bad previous experiences with. Although I will certainly watch it, I don't expect it to make it past the already ordered episodes. What a shame.
I've had a sick feeling about Fox's treatment of Dollhouse for some time. Mid-season? Bad sign. No ads? Worse sign. (I only know Dollhouse exists because I'm a huge Whedon fan. I have NEVER seen a trailer for the show that I didn't seek out online.)
I actually think the Friday night time slot is going to be easier on Dollhouse than Monday would have been. I think every network should have a night where they put their high-quality shows with small cult followings (like Pushing Daisies, etc.)
I usually stay in on Fridays, so it works out great for me. Fox does seem to be trying to give it a pre-mature burial, though.
When I read the comment of the Fox head honcho that he only heard every other word of Whedon's pitch, and thus bought a different show than he thought he was buying, I figured Dollhouse was doomed.
Why can't he just leave Whedon alone to write his vision and give the show network support? Why just kill the show? So it wasn't what he thought it was going to be, it could be a hit show anyway if he didn't interfere with the writing and screw with the timeslot. Is he so invested in being right that he can't allow for that to be possible even though a hit show would only benefit FOX?
Ah, Fridays. Where shows are sent to die.
Though, actually, that might be a good thing: with expectations so low, any reasonable ratings might keep both shows alive longer. What does Fox show now on Fridays? I honestly don't know.
Well, a decent time slot and tons of advertising didn't help Drive any last year. Maybe the Friday, build a devoted fan base to create buzz idea will work.
I thought after Firefly Joss said that he would never work with FOX again, what's up with this seriously =(
I don't know which is worse. Fox for giving Dollhouse the timeslot-of-death before it's aired, or Joss Whedon for dealing with Fox. Didn't the awful treatment of Firefly teach him anything?
Well, that's a surprise... NOT! I mean Whedon of Fox. What did we expect? Seriously I don't know what Joss is thinking at this point? Is he hoping Fox' madness will give him another go at a movie?
If moving it to Friday's wasn't enough, they're putting it on at the exact same time as the hotly anticipated final 10 episodes of BattleStar Galactica.
I wonder which one will get more viewers?
Actually, I already stay in on Fridays as I watch Ghost Whisperer, Numb3rs (don't forget the freaky 3 there) and Sanctuary. So yeah, I'll watch Dollhouse on Fridays. (BTW Friday is the new Monday ... mainly because that's the first day of MY work week. There really isn't a Mon-Fri 9-5 anymore)
Frankly, I'm surprised anyone watches live TV anymore, so as long as there are only two shows on at any given time, so i can DVR both, I'm cool with it.
I couldn't be happier about this.
The show will probably survive for half of it's run and then get axed.
But think of the kick ass movie that will come of it. Serenity is proof of that for sure. Joss knows how to rise from the ashes.
BSG will be on at 10, not 9 when Dollhouse is showing. Seems like Fox wants a Sci Fi night only they're not even bothering to advertise and spin this choice of night PR problem.
Isn't that what DVR is for?
The fans have only themselves to blame. TV execs do not have a method to interpret the character of the discussion on the internet. Fans read sides and spoilers and start posting all kinds of hysterical shit and pulling their hair out, and the TV idiots think this is important commentary by reasonable people. They think the fans aren't into the concept. They don't get that fans are entitled, hysterical nitwits by nature. Fans killed Firefly by being psycho about vague reports that the studio wasn't confident about the first episode. Now fans are killing Dollhouse.
Hey,CSI started on Friday. I know, different network, different audience, and different competition. It sounds like Whedon needs to find another network.
Do the nets have a way of taking note of DVR viewings?
I would think the amount of people who watch when a show is broadcast is constantly shrinking.
And not taking note of DVR viewings/ads seems crazy.
Finally something to actually watch on Fridays. This actually seems like a smart move. There wasn't a lot of places to put either show. Don't forget X-Files also started out on Fridays and Fox let that build a fanbase before moving it to Sunday night. Maybe the low expectations will help them.

I will, of course, tune in. But I am worried that Fox will try to murder this one like Firefly. Right now, the fact that it's a Joss Whedon show is the only reason it even has a chance.
That said, putting it back-to-back with T:SCC might end up being a good thing. With any luck, the two sci-fi shows will reinforce one another.
Mind you, if FOX pre-empts even ONE episode for sports, then I say we unleash a Terminator/Slayer combo on Murdoch's ass.
Heil Whedon!
