1. Boring World Series
The show has been a solid hit for a while now, but we think the sudden burst might have something to do with the crappily rated World Series. With no one tuning in to see Fox's big baseball dud, it was confusing to figure out if House was new, a rerun, or what. Especially if you aren't watching the onslaught of commercials. People might have tuned to NCIS for a safe bet.

2. It's better than Dancing With the Stars recaps
Since Opportunity Knocks got axed, NCIS has been going up against the rehashed hour of Dancing With the Stars that airs before the actual elimination show. Who in their right mind would watch an extra hour of that show when it is already on like 12 hours a week? Especially in the day and age of the DVR.

3. No convoluted time-traveling plots
This fast-paced crime-solving drama relies on no stupid tricks of implanting a chip in someone's head to help them be a better spy. Nor does it rely on sending its detectives back to different decades in order to close a case. Nope. Simple and set in the present, it relies on good old-fashioned sleuthing to get the job done.

4. No one watches the first hour of The Biggest Loser
The Biggest Loser is amazingly insane this season. But no one bothers watching that first hour between eight and nine. Especially when the show even gives you a quick catch up of what you missed at the 9 o'clock mark. No need to sit through the bickering and sweating, when you can just tune in to see if the fat people got thin. Why not watch NCIS in the meantime?

5. It's not a reality show
Sometimes you just want to sit down and watch a nice, hour-long scripted show, and you don't want to see people dance or exercise. But your brain can't handle the attitude of House. That's when you tune in for an hour of Mark Harmon. Kinder, gentler and much less screaming all around.

6. It's got way fewer characters than House
House is kind of out of hand lately. There are so many original cast members and new cast members, that it is hard to remember who is on his team, and who isn't speaking with him in a given week. NCIS' close knit little crew work together, everyone's got their thing to do, and they get the job done. And sometimes even have a few laughs along the way.

7. It's that or watch 90210
While nu 90210 isn't quite the original trainwreck that it was when it started out this season (it's still bad... but slightly less bad), its hardly any competition for a big league CBS series. Can't blame people for wanting to see someone take down some terrorists instead of watching bitchy girls snipe at each other over ugly boys.

8. No supernatural beings
There are so many crime-fighting shows on today that have suped up heroes taking down the enemy, or people with psychic powers or terminators. It's kind of refreshing to watch a show that's just normal people. Smart, but normal.

9. No talking cars
Seriously, this fall season brought back the talking car. After a week filled with dumb programming like this, a smartly scripted formulaic drama like NCIS is like Shakespeare by comparison.

10. It's kinda not a bad show
Maybe it's a little too procedural (but then so is House) and maybe the team is a little quirky (but so is Bones) and maybe there's already so many crime scene dramas on (all the CSIs), but somehow it all kind of works together. It's got a good cast, is pretty well-written and just does its thing. Yay for consistency. There's way worse programming to be watching on TV. Trust us. It may face some trouble when Idol comes back, but until then let it have its moment in the sun.
