TWoP 10: TV Things We're Thankful For

We spend a lot of time griping about all the things that are wrong with TV. However, it is sort of our favorite thing, so we figured that for Thanksgiving it would be appropriate to reflect on some of the wonderful tasty treats this fall.

1. True Blood's Lafayette
We're hooked on this new series, and there's lots of reasons we love it, but Lafayette is the icing on the cake and our favorite person on the show. While it's not looking good for the fate of this character, his sassy attitude and charismatic appeal really livened things up. Alternately funny, slightly sleazy and so outspoken, he was just fabulous. Who knew we'd be so grateful that a drug dealer had entered our lives?

2. 13 Episodes of Pushing Daisies
Our initial reaction to Pushing Daisies not getting picked up was anger. While we're still in the midst of depression, today we're trying to look at it as a glass-half-full situation. At least the show got a second season, and it got 13 episodes and didn't just get unceremoniously yanked from the air with no resolution at all. We're going to savor every delicious moment we've got left.

3. Neil Patrick Harris
We can't get enough of NPH. Why else would we watch something called the World Magic Awards? NPH has been delighting us as How I Met Your Mother's Barney (especially his Naked Man) and kept us amused during a long summer with his singing voice and sweet romantic side in Dr. Horrible. We're pretty much convinced there's nothing he can't do.

4. Next season of Dancing with the Stars won't have Cloris Leachman
Sure, the Cloris Leachman schtick was funny for a while, but then once she started doing that horrible gyrating and humping on the dance floor with her partner, we were kind of over it. It seems doubtful that they'd ever be able to find a celebrity more outrageous than her, so we're thinking it may be safe to come out and watch this show again in the spring.

5. BBC America
This one little network brings us so much delight, especially in the form of Torchwood, Skins and Primeval. Not only are the shows first-rate, but we also get to watch things like Worst Week of My Life, before they get made into a muddled mess of mediocrity for U.S. viewers.

6. Heroes Pairing Up Sylar and Elle
Yeah, we were shocked that Heroes made our thankful list, but while the show itself is still a shadow of its Season 1 goodness, some promising developments are keeping us watching. We're most excited about the pairing the conflicted evildoer Sylar and the former company gal Elle. Zachary Quinto and Kristen Bell together are electric!

7. Brenda Walsh's Return
90210 2.0 isn't exactly the most amazing show to ever hit the airwaves; however, it did do right by bringing Brenda Walsh back. No one does bitchy, righteous, actress better than Shannen Doherty in her legendary teen role. At least that much hasn't changed. Now if they could just do something about the new kids...

8. Grey's Anatomy
We're thankful that we've got this show to kick around. It constantly annoys us with ridiculous storylines (Denny back from the dead and making out with Izzie!) and off-screen drama (abruptly firing the actress playing their newly openly gay character), which gives us lots to write about. It is truly a treasure for bloggers on a slow news day.

9. Sons of Anarchy for Bringing Peg Bundy Back
Any show that wants to cast Katey Sagal as a badass biker bitch is okay by us, not to mention that this new series is gritty and seriously rocks. It almost makes us okay with the fact that The Shield just ended. Almost.

10. Somehow they didn't manage to destroy Life on Mars
As mentioned in our BBC America shout-out, so many shows lose their spirit when they're remade across the pond. But this one's done a great job keeping its integrity. We're hooked.

Since it's Thanksgiving, and we always end up overstuffed, of course we've got too many things that we're thankful for. Here are a couple more bonus TV treats we're thankful for. Think of them as dessert.

Supernatural's Jensen Ackles playing air guitar on his leg
We can't tell you how many times we've watched the bonus footage of Dean rockin' out to "Eye of the Tiger." It's a real pick-me-up.

Ugly Betty actually got good again
We were worried about Betty. It derailed seriously last season, and started out questionably this fall. But somehow it's back in its prime. The key? More Marc and Amanda, which we've been saying all along.

What TV things are you thankful for this fall? Let us know!

I'm thankful for The Big Bang Theory...the closest I've ever seen on TV to how my friends and I actually talk ;)

I'm thankful for Tina Fey, comedy goddess (even though that Steve Martin ep was WEIRD...and this is coming from a girl who relates to Sheldon)

I am thankful for Kevin McKidd...and for Kevin McKidd's new (old?) red hair, which ups his hotness quotient considerably.

I am thankful for DEXTER getting back on the moral-grey-area train...Dex as hero wore thin quickly.

I am thankful for the cinematic treat that is new episodes of LIFE (but not for this Friday night crap - we keep forgetting to watch!)

And not that it needs to be said around these parts, but I am thankful for NPH too - as we enter a new, post-Obama climate of real sincerity outdoing boring ol' irony, he represents the welcome return of pure, unadulterated AWESOME.

I am thankful for:

the brilliance of sons of anarchy, mad men, the campy fun of True Blood, the brutality of Brotherhood and Capadocia, the bitterness of Dr. House, and the fictional existence of Chuck Bass. I would be so happy to see some sort of crossover with Gossip Girl and True Blood, wherein Chuck Bass is really a vampire and steals Sookie from Bill. A girl can dream, can't she?

I'm thankful for:

Chuck. Drama, action, comedy, pop culture references and romance all wrapped up in one tidy package.

Pushing Daisies - at least we got 22 wonderful episodes.

Life - Zen and the police procedural (sp?). Damian Lewis is fantastic.

Friday Night Lights - Even with some questionable storylines (Landry as a killer?!), the interpersonal relationships in this show are about the most authentic I've ever seen. I feel like I know these people. I can't wait until Coach, Mrs. Coach, Saracen, Julie, Riggins, et al. are back on NBC so I can watch them!

Bones - David Boreanaz. Need I say more?

I'm so thankful that Friday Night Lights got a third series and returned to its former glory

I'm thankful that my life is nothimg like Hank's on Californication so I can get my vicarious thrills by watching it.

I'm thankful that even though Valentine got (rightly) cancelled, it introduced me to that manful heap of awesome that is Kristoffer Polaha

The recent spate of cancellations, Pushing Daisies, My Own Worst Enemy, Dirty Sexy Money, reminds me of why I don't allow myself to invest in shows on TV. I am enraged that the above mentioned shows have been canceled and yet Two and Half Men and the getting-worse-each-week Heroes are allowed to pollute the airwaves. This is why people don't watch TV, any show you enjoy and become invested is canceled before they are given a chance. This also applies to Dirt and The Riches but thankfully Damages and Nip/Tuck are returning. SCREW THE NETWORKS!!!!!

I am thankful for Terminator being a quality show every week and surpassing Heroes in quality, story telling, action, etc. I'm thankful for Supernatural having possibly its finest season ever. I'm very thankful for Jensen Ackles really putting in the extra work as Dean. I'm also thankful for Smallville finally feeling more like a Superman show now that new people are behind it.

I'm thankful Heroes has been nowhere near as bad as I thought, I am even enjoying it as it happens (Just keep up the Kristen Bell please).

I am thankful BSG will be beack soon.

Terminator has been awesome, Supernatural has been surprisingly good and HIMYM is still the best comedy on at the moment(sorry 30 Rock).

I give thanks to all this and more, but most of all to TWOP for providing such consistent entertainment. Thank you very much.

I am thankful too for BBC america. It introduced me to the overall sexiness of John Barrowman and Gareth David-LLoyd. I also love so many of the shows they have on there.
I am also thankful for Bravo and all the great campy shows on that network. And of course for giving us the awesomeness that is Tim Gunn.
And I am also thankful that ABC hasn't cancelled Brothers and Sisters. My thankfullness extends to them making Luke McFarland a full time character.

I am thankful for every episode of Supernatural, crappy or not. Sam and Dean (actually Jared and Jensen) make my week every week.

I am thankful that Supernatural is off the air until January, so hopefully Kripke and Singer can write Ruby and Anna OUT of the script. Sam and Dean don't need girls.

I am thankful for TWOPs awesome recaps of Supernatural (I especially love Raul's love of GOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!)

I am thankful for Chuck Bass.

I am thankful for how good Ugly Betty has been lately. The mix of biting humor and bittersweet sentiment is back, and perfect.

I am also thankful for two things from the past--"A Very Supernatural Christmas," and the episode of Ugly Betty where Marc and Cliff first got together. Yay for sap!

I am thankful for HIMYM. And for Scrubs returning. There are never enough hilarious shows on that don't get cancelled or start to go downhill after a couple seasons. Barney on HIMYM is so hilarious that I sometimes forget how great the rest of the cast is, but they are all truly hilarious.

I'm also very thankful Psych has a holiday episode again this year. After that disappointing 3rd season and the horrible character/casting of Shawn's mother, I'm optimistic for more Shawn/Gus time.
