We've got to give Band From TV some credit. There are busy celebrities (well... some of them at least) who take time out of their day jobs (well... some of them at least) to play music and give the money to charity. It's nice to see that these TV stars (current and former) are giving back. The results are perfectly fine. They perform a mix of classic cover tunes and they're quite decent on their respective instruments. I'm sure Simon Cowell would have some snarkier critiques of their performances, but if you are a big fan of any of the actors, you'll probably be delighted with their recently released album Hoggin All the Covers.
It's Hugh Laurie from House, Greg Grunberg (who is far less annoying here than he is as Matt Parkman on Heroes), Bob Guiney (who is only famous because he was on a dating show), Bonnie Sommerville (who was on the Sex and the City rip-off that is not still on the air), and James Denton from Desperate Housewives. And it is a Live DVD as well as just the audio CD, so even if you are less than charmed by the audio portion (which, again, is surprisingly enjoyable) there are pretty things to look at as well. And it's never a bad thing to hear Hugh Laurie singing. And they sure do seem to be having a grand old time. My biggest complaint is that I now have "Pink Cadillac" stuck on an endless loop in my head.
All the proceeds to the stars' favorite charities, so if you buy it, you can feel good about yourself and get a holiday gift for your mom (that's my plan at least).
Thoughts on the band? Will you be putting this on your wish list?
