Balthazar Getty: Fired for Being a Slut (Basically) The rumor that Balthazar Getty's gig on Brothers & Sisters is ending soon has been swirling around ever since he started being photographed smooching a topless Sienna Miller on the high seas months ago, and now Ausiello is reporting that it's pretty much officially true now. Well, it's still technically a rumor because ABC hasn't confirmed, but it's Ausiello and he knows things from time to time so I'm inclined to believe it.

Sources are squawking that Getty was informed by the show's producers that he will not be picked up as a series regular next season, which could either mean that he'll be kicked off the show entirely or just come back as a guest star every once in a while. Ausiello doesn't know for sure why, but we all know the public hates Balty for being a fornicating fornicator, his co-stars are siding with his wife and four children in the drama, he's not worth paying for in these harsh economic times, and reports that he's been late to work and a bitch to deal with on account of his life falling apart aren't, you know, out of the realm of possibilities for the "firing."

Also, who cares about Tommy? He just takes away from the Kevin hilarity. And don't even get me started on boring Julia and that ugly baby they cast as Elizabeth. I'm not usually wild about people being fired for what's going on in their personal lives, but in this case I don't think the show will suffer for it, so it's OK. And even if it did, all Brothers & Sisters ever has to do to win me back is have another Nora/Holly food fight and I'd be back with bells on.

How do you feel about it? Tommy-haters? Tommy-lovers? Testify! And if you spew venom about my beloved Holly I'll...I'll... feel sad. Alright, let me have it.

I hate it when any original cast member of any show, especially a core family member, is let go. This kinda sucks, in my opinion. I always held the notion that if Tommy & Julia were boring, then it's the writers' fault and their job to make them interesting. Tommy being a boring stick in the mud shouldn't make it easier to let him go, nor should his private life.

No one should be let go from their job for their personal life. However from reports, it seems Getty's behavior at work is unprofessional, therefore like anyone else with a job, there should be consequences for that behavior.

I dont really watch this anyway and when I occasionally do its for Getty, i've been a fan of his for a long time and while i disaprove of his behaviour it doesnt shake my opinion of him as a performer.
How ever i agree its unfair to fire someone because of their personal life, unless of course their personal life is directly detrimental to the show...if his behaviour etc is actually hurting the whole show then yeah maybe let him go, but as Genius said above, if his character is boring its not his fault and its sort of unfair to drop him because of that.
Im waiting until i hear from someone who works with him directly, as in, another cast member, that he's being unproffesional, before i really form an opinion though, if he's really acting out of line maybe a...break, if nothing else, would be worth it

He's a decent actor, and it just seemed like his storyline might finally get interesting with the hints of him trying to oust Holly from Ojai. I'm also angry that his departure screws Sarah Jane Morris who consistently delivers, when the writers give her something to do. However, the show's cast is pretty bloated and a lot of talented actors are pretty much wasted (ie Ron Rifkin) so maybe this will make more room for them.

I think if its that bad it totally interferes with his work, so, toodles!

Besides I found the Tommy character quite peripheral on the show until they started juicing up his role up. I think he should be retained as a guest actor no need to kill him off or whatever.
As for his behavior in his personal life it's a shame but he's a human being at the end of it all.

So does this mean that they are going to play the embezzlement angle as to why he will be departing the show. I just want him to kick Holly out before he gets the boot.

I'm with the other commenters - this isn't 1943, there isn't a morals clause in these people's contracts. Like anyone else, they can do what they want as long as it isn't affecting their job. Once it does, though, there should be consequences for that.

On the other hand, while I don't care for Tommy he *is* one of the Walkers, and he has great chemistry with the others. It would be jarring for him to be gone from the show, or even have a reduced role.

How about recasting the character? I'd like that better than never seeing the character again, or not seeing him often.

Considering things mentioned...

His personal life is a mess, other talented actors/main storylines, and the economy could using him as a guest help with all of these things? It's not like he couldn't come back full time later.

Getty could have been made recurring with the actress who plays his wife long ago as far as I'm concerned.
His storyline have never been the strongest and yeah, his ass hatery and adultery hasn't helped.

I never watch this show, but this Getty guy is Blech. I hated him as Paige's magic-addicted boyfriend on Charmed, so...see ya, buddy.

FOUR children. Go home!

If his behavior on-set is affecting his co-workers, ditch Getty and bring in another "Tommy".

This isn't the first time something like this has happened - there was a notorious episode in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Nicholas Brendan was an alcoholic for a while, and Joss Whedon *did not approve*. Therefore, Xander became a whiny suckface who was hated by all.

I think that's the proper way to deal with stuff like infidelity.

The show isn't going to survive past another season so who really cares?

I feel an actor/actress personal life is their own business as long as it doesn't effect his ability to perform, and if so he should be reprimanded not fired. As far as his role in Brothers and Sisters its up the writers to spice up his role, and I think its be way overdue. Let's not just place blame when it convenient.

They need more room for Holly and her ex boyfriend kissing each other? Yeah, good for us.

The personal definitely interferes with the professional here, as Sienna Miller used to date Matthew Rhys before Miller and Getty got together. Which would be one extra reason why most of the cast and crew might be unfriendly towards Getty.

And god knows Tommy is nothing but boringsville, even when the character has an A plot to his name.

Julia we can keep. She's lovely!

While Tommy is the least interesting Walker, I hate to see one of the Walkers leave; not every family member is going to be over the top interesting. He brings a little balance.

Still, if the guy is difficult to work with, then the powers in charge are entitled to do whatever they need to in order to keep the ship sailing smoothly.

I think what I would regret the most is the Walker brothers' dynamic. There have been really funny moments with all three together.

Any person who works "in the public eye" is subject to having their personal life interfere with work. That's part of being a celebrity since your entire job revolves around what? Your persona. Actors get hired/fired for roles all the time because of their public persona and I think it's fitting.

I've grown to dislike his character, quite honestly, because of his disgusting behavior outside the show. I'm kind of tired of celebrities getting to act like imbeciles in life and having the public continue to support them. Dang right I'd like to see him gone. If you want to whore around with someone: 1. Break up with your wife. 2. Do not do it in front of cameras. 3. In other words, have some decency and common sense.

I don't think that Baltazar should be penalized for what goes on in his personal life. He's far from being the first actor whose marriage or relationship broke up while in a series. But I'm not sure if Tommy getting back together with Julia after he had an affair was right. I agree that Tommy and Julia are dull. If the producers are so sure that he's not integral why not let him go and see how things are. However, I do feel that with the imminent arrival of their actual half-sibling Ryan, I think there may be too many brothers. But as stated he's one of the Walkers, if Julia, Scotty, or even Robert for that matter were to leave it would be ok. But not one of the Walkers.

I'm with Annie. Calling a baby ugly doesn't cut it as satire. TWOP used to be able to manage the distinction between "snarky" and "pointlessly bitchy." Shallow, humour-free items like this just make me sad.
