Kath & Kim's Celeb Cameo: The Opposite of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup I am probably one of the very few (read: twelve) people who actually likes/watches the show Kath & Kim. For various reasons (it's a disgrace to the original Aussie version, the casting is all wrong), people just loooooooove to bitch about this colorful bit of camp. Well, I object. Sure it's nothing like the original, and it's a good thing, too, because Aussie humor doesn't always translate, and unless you're privy to the various slang terms and cultural touchstones of Down Under, you can easily get lost. But I maintain that the Americanized version kept the essence of the show -- complete with the end-of-show "wine time" segment and the near-constant exclamations by both Kath and Kim that something or other is "soooo unusual." I think Molly Shannon is perfectly loverly as the unflinchingly cheerful exercise fanatic Kath, and despite all the protests that Selma Blair isn't believable as her daughter, I quite enjoy her grouchy, junk-food addicted "trophy wife" Kim. Oh, and John Michael Higgins can basically do no wrong.

But last night's bizarre and utterly pointless cameo by Pamela Anderson made me rethink my allegiance to this show. For one thing, why? And for another, why? Kath and Kim are notoriously obsessed with the tabloids, so obvi the show's producers were trying to play off of that by nabbing someone appropriately trashy-but-famous. Newsflash: Pam Anderson hasn't been in the tabs for years because no one gives a rat's ass about her anymore. Clearly she was just desperate enough to say yes to this little appearance because Britney and Lindsay were already contractually bound to a no-compete clause stemming from their stunt-casting cameos on CBS and ABC, respectively (I totally made that up, but it's possible!). And all the other rag regulars are too busy getting plastic surgery or having babies or getting incarcerated for DUIs to commit to something with such mediocre ratings.

This weird pairing was the opposite of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup because it took two things that are pretty good on their own and made them into one really sucky thing. Two great tastes that are incredibly lame together.

Watch it and tell me I'm not just being a nit-picky B:
