But once I year I go home to Northern California for Christmas, where I am reunited with my family and reminded of that fact relentlessly, and feel a mixture of shame for being far too obsessed with pop culture than I should be and a blind rage towards everyone around me for not understanding a single word I say or thing I care about for the entire duration of my visit, which is basically a reenactment of the first 18 years of my life. In short, I got back to NYC last night, and I gotta vent. And hey, that's what blogs are for! Here is a list of 10 of my favorite entertainment-related comments made by my family and/or family's friends over the past week. Keep in mind that the following was all said with exactly zero irony.

10) "Well we saw Ghost Rider in HD and it was fantaaaaaaaaastic!"
9) [Moments later, during the same conversation, with the same person.] "Oh and that Dark Knight was awful! Could you believe how Batman talked? So annoying!"
8) "Seriously? People say Tom Cruise is gay?"
7) "What's Facebook?"
6) "We tried to watch that Two and a Half Men once and had to turn it off. It was funny, but way too sexual!"
5) [When Akon's "Locked Up" came on the local radio station.] (A resounding) "ACORN!!!!"
4) [My mom, about 17 times during the Hamlet 2 viewing I subjected her to.] "Who is this? Steve Crew? Steve Crouton?"
3) [When a family friend put his sunglasses on in the middle of Target for no discernible reason.] "Oh, that's just dad's David Caruso impression again." (Note: Though this one seems to negate my entire point, I'm including it because he developed that impression because CSI: Miami is his favorite show of all time.)
2) "Well, I mean, when was the last time a TV show worth watching was even on?"
1) "Hey honey! According to Jim is on! I better tape it!"
