I don't know what the hell is going on over at Grey's Anatomy lately (and I'm not just talking about the disaster that is unfolding on screen). My pal Ausiello at EW says T.R. Knight quit. That always reliable source Us Magazine says that he's not going anywhere. I'm leaning towards believing Ausiello, but I'm totally biased. Frankly, all I can hope is that the formerly adorable and now useless George gets the hell out of dodge and takes his little dog too (and by little dog I mean that whiny bitch Katherine Heigl... in case that wasn't clear enough).
Don't get me wrong, I used to love T.R. Knight's George. He was so sweet and endearing, but that was before they made the wretched decision to have his character cheat on his wife and hook up with, of all people, his supposed best pal Izzie. I supported Knight whole-heartedly through Isaiahgate and was rooting for him to have a nice workplace to go to. But it seems that all he's gotten in return is off-putting storylines and goofball subplots, from being the chief's brown-nosing intern to being oblivious to Lexie's affections to moving out of Casa de Meredith where all the other doctors live to having little to do aside from speculate on Izzie's well being.
George is stuck in quite the crossroads. He's not quite hot enough to compete with the big boys for the girls and as a resident who recently stepped up from being an intern, there's no way he can really get the respect or earn any of the surgeries that the others will get. Was he even a contender for the recent solo surgery? Would you trust him to amputate your limb if you knew he'd had to repeat a year? I don't think so.
If T.R. actually asked to be let out of his contract, or outright quit, or whatever the proper legalese is about this situation, I kind of have to give him credit. He's probably tired of showing up for work and just standing there with nothing to do. Instead of pulling a Heigl and waiting until after the fact and then complaining vocally during Emmy consideration time (not that she deserved to be nominated but that's a whole different story), he kind of did the manly thing and just stepped aside gracefully.
And with the hot mess that is that show right now, I can't actually say that I blame him. I'd want to get out of there too and hope for greener pastures that had better writing and storylines that didn't involve necrophilia. Though being a more cautious sort, perhaps I would have waited until AFTER I'd found a new job prospect before handing in my walking papers. These are tough times. I just would hate to see the seemingly sweet Knight working at the In-N-Out Burger because he couldn't find a new gig. He's a unique sort of actor, so he might have a difficult time getting cast in another high-profile role. So I worry for him, but aside from him not having a job... I'm not really all that sad to see him go because his character stopped being interesting to me more than a season ago. With that cast being overstuffed as it is, and the recent upheaval with the whole Hahn thing, the best I can hope for is that he gets some sort of resolution, and isn't just mentioned in passing like Washington and Brooke Smith, like "Oh, he used to work here and now he doesn't." Even though his character has gotten the shaft lately, he deserves better than that.
What are your thoughts? Would you be happy to see George leave? Do you think T.R. Knight would be making a huge mistake? Sound off below.

I'm on his side. He didn't get public support for Isaiahgate until it was too late to matter. He was the only gay actor on the show, and the only one who had to defend his character's heterosexuality. He's had a few good seasons where George was in the spotlight, but now, extras get more screentime than he does.
I'd hate to think he threw a hissy fit and stormed off, but I wouldn't blame him at all if he just got fed up with all the shit that's been scattered around in this trainwreck of a show.
I'm another who used to love his character, circa seasons 1 and 2. I think he's a fine TV actor, and capable of being very touching, so I've been sad to see him get relegated to the background, but I can't say that I've enjoyed any of the plotlines in recent seasons where he was more in the forefront. Grey's has wasted him, and I can't say I blame him for walking at this point, but I do worry that he won't be destined to go on to much after this. I'd rather have the old George back than have the character exit, but since that's unlikely, it's probably better than he go now.

I'm sick of comments that say he's "Not quite as hot to compete with the other guys." So the fuck what? Not everyone is a McDreamy/McSteamy. He and Lexie are perfect for each other. If Grey's loses T.R. for being total douchebages, then they deserve to go straight into the shitter and stay there.
Maybe he is pissed off about what they did to the gay character (Hahn). I can see him doing very well in a quality sitcom or a quirky show on cable. He has the likeability and warmth that is necessary for TV work. Also, he may not be "hot" but he's "cute as hell" and a lot of women (and guys)go for that. He is also a theater actor who has appeared on Broadway, so he can go back to that if he wants to.
The one I think is TOTALLY neglected this season is McDreamy. He just pops in occasionally to be indulgent and condescending to Mere, and their sex life has apparently ceased to exist.
I think George is very hot, just in a different way than the McOthers. I think TR is a great actor and I wouldn't blame him for bailing, after the horror that was Gizzie.
Never was a George fan (too whiny) but last season and this, he's been even worse. And his plotlines have been ridiculous. He should leave - there's a big enough cast as is.
I just read his info on IMDB. He played the leads in "Amadeus" and "Ah, Wilderness!" at the Guthrie Theatre, acted on Broadway 4-5 times, and was nominated for the Drama Desk Award for one Broadway role.
He's got the acting chops to do whatever he wants. The rest of it is just luck. He does need to get off this show, unless they give him a better storyline.
George was the only Grey's character I had a TV crush on--take that McDreamy! And I agree that T.R. would be great on something quirky and/or cabley.
I used to really enjoy his character, and I am a little sad that he's leaving, but better now than stick around. Yes, he's had nothing to do, but in previous seasons he had exceptionally meaty storylines. The writers might want to do a better job of making the flow of those kinds of things a little more even...
All that being said they boxed his character into a corner, and I'm not really going to notice that much when he's gone. He was equally endearing and irritating, which speaks highly of T.R.'s talent for layering the character, but more power to him for leaving. He didn't seem to want the spotlight as much as the others anyway, so I hope he will be happier with what comes next!
I never like this character but know that he was interesting at the beginning (but I wasn't interested).
But right now and since a looooong time GA is just a mess. So George isn't the only problem.
I hate Denny since his first appearance and the Gizzie thing was just bad. For me they wasted three characters because of Izzie, well Izzie, Alex (even if he is still good) and George.
If I was TRK with no other opportunity (maybe he has some other plans) I would stay just because of the money ;-)(cf. J. Morisson and J. Spenser on House).
But in the same time, I don't think the show could be safe from its big mistakes.
The original story was that he was going to be fired for being "a pain in the ass", and now this he's asked to be let out of his contract was a preemptive strike. My question is why Heigl can pull all her shit and get to keep her job?
George was always my favorite character because he seemed like the only normal person at the freaking hospital. He was also the one who pulled off the comedy and wasn't always whiny, pushy, or just plain annoying.
I even stuck by George during the annoying Gizzie storyline and was hoping for some redemption this season. So I'm sad he's leaving, but after the stupid Denny storyline that you know they created just for November sweeps, I have to say I think T.R. is making a wise choice.
Why keep a job where you see 3 minutes of screen time in an episode? And one where the storylines are continuously stupid now? Bravo to T.R. I really like him and I hope he finds another job soon!
It's becoming clearer and clearer what's wrong with Grey's Anatomy: the show runners are completely unprofessional. This makes the third original cast member to be dissatisfied enough with the show and the working environment to make it public knowledge. What that says to me is that Shonda Rhimes in particular and the other show higher ups are not good bosses. I'd wager that's why the writing has gotten so bad- people are afraid to challenge their ideas for fear of retribution. You can't tell me there's not one writer on staff that heard about the Denny storyline and didn't think "Holy hell this is a horrible horrible idea." If the show was being properly run, there'd be enough communication to avoid these writing disasters... and the show runners would be humble enough to listen to their actors.
There is a dark cloud looming over this show and sharks jumping in the toilet to which it is headed.
I would be surprised if it gets picked up for season 6. And if it does, well then that'll be the death of it. Eaten by those jumping sharks. Terrible way to go.
I gave up on Grey's Anatomy ages ago, and I miss watching TR Knight and Sandra Oh, they're both really good actors. I'd love to see TR on another show that I watch.
Okay, I think Eric Dane and Justin Chambers are the sexiest guys on Grey's ... TR is no slouch, I think he's hot.
Forget McSteamy and McDreamy or all the other McWhatevers. When George climbed up to sit behind Bailey and help her have her baby, to me there was no one hotter on that show. I had such a crush on him. He was the sweetest character, such a stand-up guy. I thought that was incredibly sexy, and I loved that the beautiful, bad-ass Callie was attracted to him. I thought his getting married so soon was a bad idea, as was his cheating on her (which seemed completely out of character). And if he'd never gotten married to Callie, I actually thought he and Izzie would have been an interesting couple, if only the writers had approached the relationship from a more normal way (two best friends realizing they actually could see each other in another way), skipping the stupid soap-opera-like love triangle. They were really fun together when they were just friends. Why can't that be a terrific basis for something more? Why do stories have to be soaped up? I think T.R. is a wonderfully talented actor, as is Katherine Heigl (yes, really!), and I think they should be giving both actors more *quality* work to do. If not, let them move on to more interesting projects. (And I really hope they do find lots of work, because I'm not ready to stop watching their work.)
Good luck to TR.
I think George was super hot with Izzie - even though it did not make a lot sense.
I'd love to see him in some less dopey plot lines if he does stay on at gray's.
There have been two versions of the story: 1) that he was unprofessional, possibly due to his dissatisfaction with the writing, and 2) that he was dissatisfied but professional.
Remember back in the Isaiah Thomas days, Isaiah supposedly was mad that T.R. wasn't there in time for their scene and said as much, using the derogatory term for gays in the process.
Katherine may be completely professional on set and just have a big mouth.
Personally, I think Shonda is the one that needs to go...or take a step back and focus on PP, or leave that and focus on Greys. She can't do both. And if she is just concentrating on Greys, then she does need a step back. They need to trim the cast, or just stop adding new people, send Denny to the white light for good, and follow through on storylines (ie, not hype up Hahn/Callie then dump that story).
Yeah, I agree that it's Shonda who needs to go. I lay all the blame at her feet and feel like she blamed both Knight and Heigl for the firing of Washington (which I have to believe was ABC-mandated). Since then, she has turned George and Izzie into horrible characters, and I for one don't really blame either actor for whatever dissatisfaction they feel. I really feel like Shonda has created a toxic work environment.
Because TPTB consider a hot blonde with nice tatas more "marketable" than a short gay not-so-stereotypically-hot guy?
Back when GA was new & watchable, I looked forward to George & Izzie eventually moving from best friends to best partners. Now that the script monkeys have made that impossible, I can only fantasize about TRK moving over to "The Big Bang Theory"... as the openly gay particle physicist who encourages Sheldon to embrace his musical-loving, neatness-obsessed, snarky-boy side.
I believe that it would be better if the leadership would recognize theyre faults and freakin listen to the viewer's since they are the one's watching and trully hoping for the embetterment of the freakin show...
Wow. He is giving up a lot of money for artistic integrity. Good for him, I hope it works out. He is an awesome actor and apparently a pretty cool guy in real life, too.
I don't terribly mind George being gone, because I don't like the character. I never really understood what it was about him, but TR is a good actor. If he goes, he should take along Lexie on his way out! Katherine on the other hand I LOVE! She is a great actress in my opinion and I am one of those who like the Denny storyline. So I hope George stays long enough to help Izzie through her illness and then doesn't die, because that would send her SO over the edge.
As a Minnesotan who used to see T.R. Knight in plays, I'm kind of hoping he returns to the stage. I'm glad he's getting out of the show while he can because, well, he should. (Also, I think the clear reason that he had to repeat a year is that he had to spend all his time being the Chief's investigative sponge and his brown-nosing intern and never had time to actually, you know, do his job.)
I used to like George, before the Izzie nonsense, and now that he's only had, what, five lines this season, I'm hoping he's on his way out, and I'm glad that it's on his own terms.

From what I understand, he's been being a diva lately, so they gave him less screen time. He got upset, so he quit.
To be or not to be george.. WTF? :)
