BLOGS
Good afternoon and welcome to your Friday TWOP News: pre-Oscars edition. I'm sure you've all started your second-by-second Oscar countdowns, painstakingly viewed all the Best Documentary Short and Sound Mixing nominees in order place your bets most effectively, and made a shopping excursion to purchase the themed snacks you will begin eating when red carpet coverage starts at approximately 3 AM (Milk Duds, anyone?)...oh wait, that's just me? Hmmm... hmmm. While I wrap my mind around that, go ahead and wrap your minds around these delicious Friday news bites.
Worried that Hugh Jackman's hosting will be one of many missteps at the Oscars? Well, turn that frown upside down -- Ricky Gervais has broken the blessed news that he will be behind at least some of Jackman's Oscar jokes. Phew! Now we can cross that off the worry list and get down to some serious thinking about that Luhrmann-Jackman dance collaboration...
Galen Tyrol fans, rejoice! CBS has announced that Aaron Douglas will star in their newly-ordered series, The Bridge. Douglas will play a police officer who must fight not only crime but also his colleagues as the head of the police union. Here's hoping the negotiations on this show are shorter and more entertaining than real-life negotiations (we're looking at you, SAG and the WGA).
Bravo continues to move ahead with what we all know is Project Runway-lite, The Fashion Show. Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland have been chosen as judges, along with Fashion Week mastermind Fern Mallis, but we're pretty sure that nothing save an eleventh-hour hiring of Tim Gunn could help this show auf PR from our hearts.
So you're not watching Dogg After Dark. It's okay. We don't blame you. But take a gander at this: Nelly is pitching his own variety show, set in Vegas. Though I can't imagine why the world could possibly need another rapper's variety series, apparently the creators of The Daily Show and The Biggest Loser are on board. Maybe Nelly has some sort of amazing Vegas-themed gimmick up his sleeve, like interviewing his celebrity guests at a strip club, or joining the cast of Cirque du Soleil for an impromptu performance, or dueting from within a white tiger cage? This return to Nellyville could be more exciting than I thought.
Jenna Elfman may be returning to the small screen now that she's been cast in Accidentally on Purpose, a new CBS pilot, in which she'll play a San Francisco film critic who gets pregnant by a younger man and decides to start an unconventional family. Wacky!
And in case you wanted to start your weekend off on a high note, you probably shouldn't read this one: infamous UK reality star Jade Goody has said that she may choose to die in front of the cameras. Goody, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer two years ago, has spent most of her adult life on television and is currently the subject of a series called Jade's Progress about her battle with the disease. One small step for reality programming, one giant leap towards the day when we willingly watch a The Running Man-type show in which contestants are literally competing for their lives.
Happy Oscar-watching!
