BLOGS
Dear American Idol producers,
I appreciate you trying to switch things up this season by adding in the judges' power of veto and all. It was exactly the thing you needed to do to get me to suffer through the needlessly long results show, which I only ever watched two minutes a week in seasons prior. (Although I do feel like I distinctly remember "shorter results shows" being part of the promised shake-ups this season.) But since I've already been conned into watching this hour, can you at least make it less painful? Seriously. And end it on time?
I know you are trying to dominate every timeslot ever, but when I've got my DVR set to record two shows after yours, I keep missing the end, with the important part about who got eliminated, and that just annoys me (and everyone else I know who actually enjoys watching television) to no end. Especially when you are airing your show on the already overcrowded Thursday nights. It's just ridiculous, and insanely unnecessary.
It really wouldn't be all that difficult for you to do. You've got Ruben, Smokey and Joss Stone dueting and then Stevie Wonder. I think the world could have lived without Ruben Studdard. Or, much as I enjoy Stevie, make him do one less song in the medley. See? Not so tough. No one will remember your promise to have a former Idol on ever week. And, frankly, no one still cares about Ruben Studdard. You're doing him a favor, but not the rest of us.
If the celebs are too valuable in your mind, or you don't want to ruin your integrity by going back on your word, cut the group singing performances. You've already admitted that they're lip-synched, so they really serve no purpose, aside from showing us that none of the contestants can dance, which we already knew. Don't even get me started on the needless Ford commercials, or recaps of the night before. I find it insanely difficult to believe that anyone would suffer through the results show if they hadn't seen performance night.
See? I've given you so many options of things you could cut. If you don't like any of those suggestions, could you at the very least remind your judges that they are on live television? Yes. Live. Which means that instead of dancing while the contestants are singing for their supper, they should be discussing if that person gets another week. And it isn't like I ever thought for a minute that they were going to actually save sweet-dopey Michael Sarver, but it would have been nice to actually see what happened. Instead of Simon saying that they hadn't made up their minds, and then having my DVR cut-off so it could tape Grey's and The Office.
Because I really need this show to end on time. I'm already doing so much TV juggling just to fit in the three hours a week, and the last thing I need is this added aggravation. It makes me want to go back to waiting until my friends update their Facebook statuses with who got eliminated, instead of watching this show at all.
Thanks,
Angel
