Tales of Apathy: An In the Motherhood Pilot Review The In the Motherhood premiere just made me sad, everybody. Why get some of the best comedic talent on television together just to make something so inoffensive and mediocre? It's such a waste of everything. Cheryl Hines, Jessica St. Clair, Megan Mullally, Ken Marino, Rachael Harris, skinny Horatio Sanz and Kenny Powers' best friend/the nudie cokehead from Reno 911! are all so good it almost made up for the largely flat jokes (to be fair, there were one or two jokes that did work, but the rest weren't even awful, they were just meh, which is almost worse) and contrived, unoriginal situations (getting caught having sex at work, getting caught faking a pregnancy, how to tell the kids -- spoiler alert, six-year-olds reading this! -- Santa's not real -- such groaners), but I don't think even they make it worth watching a second episode of this.

I didn't watch any of the web series that inspired the show, back when it starred Jenny McCarthy, Leah Remini and Chelsea Handler, but Angel tells me it was much more subversive in its web form, probably because it was actually based on viewer story submissions. Here, we have a team of writers (and director Beth McCarthy-Miller, who I love) trying to kowtow to ABC's 8 PM expectations, and I'm sorry to say it really shows. I got bullied by my lady friends into watching Samantha Who? right after it, and, while I know the show has its fans, when I'm laughing more at Samantha Who? than I am at what is supposed to be this refreshingly rebellious look at the female experience, your show has failed.

And while we're talking about it -- why was Megan Mullally dressed like Joan Jett lite in every scene? And why can't that girl catch a break, TV hit-wise? It's so weird.

Hey, Mindy. One of the writers on Samantha Who? is also someone who helped build this site (as I'm sure you're aware). Maybe show a little grace, ok? Because those of us who are long time fans of the site are BARELY sticking with you all, as it is.

Your first two sentences summed up my feelings exactly. When it was over I just zapped it right off my DVR schedule.

"LA Because those of us who are long time fans of the site are BARELY sticking with you all, as it is."- I agree. Been a fan of this site for years ang years. The quality has gone downhill, and honestly? Y'all need a proofreader.

I watched about 5 minutes of this. I was so bored I practically fell into a coma. What happened to Ugly Betty? Has it moved?

I didn't watch the pilot episode but I did watch the web series which was excellent. I was wondering why none of the actresses from the web series were cast for the new version...maybe the material just didn't stand up to the truly funny stories there were able to show in the online version.

It's on a break. Which makes this show the "edgy" girl from the copy place that you shouldn't get involved with

Based on the promo, which talked about "situations from real moms!!!!" and then someone claiming to have run out of diapers and used paper towels for three days...no one does that. I don't think "how wacky!!" but "how ludicrous." Even if everyone has the flu, you call a friend to drop off diapers and go for 2 hours on the paper towels. (Or better, old t-shirts.) That joke was written by someone who hasn't changed diapers.

Hated it. (usually hate this genre, so I don't know why I even tried.)

However, I do love Samantha Who?!

Former TWoPer/current Samantha Who? writer Pamie is my hero, and I agree that the quality of writing has dropped on TWoP since the regime change (with a few exceptions like the old-school recappers and Jacob). I second the need for a better proofreader.

But to be fair to Mindy, this pilot indeed looked terrible, and as much as I like Samantha Who?, I forgot the show existed during its break. Oops. Because Pamie wrote here, I think she'd be fine with a little snark from Mindy. Ms. Ribon dished it out to others, and she can certainly take it.

Being an actual mother (with 3 boys) I am so tired of shows like this that aren't funny, and make us look like whiny idiots. Doesn't anyone enjoy their children?
