Today's TWoP News: March 25, 2009

Surprisingly, even though Idol wasn't on last night, there's a heck of a lot of talk about it today. Not that any of it amounts to much of anything, but hey, it's a slow news day (again), and I'll take what I can get. If that means random Idol speculation from Simon Cowell, so be it. Also, there's some news on that Gossip Girl spinoff that's making this TV nerd pretty happy.

Let's start with GG: The Early Years. Josh Schwartz says that the new series, which follows Lily's wild misspent youth in the '80s, may feature a meeting between the young Ms. Rhodes (now Van der Woodsen) and Kristen (Nichols) Cohen. Yay. I miss The O.C.... faults and all. Given my new love of Gossip Girl (don't ask), my devotion to watching anything that features Dick Casablancas (Ryan Hansen), my insane obsession with '80s music and how I get all giddy when fictional characters meet, this might very well be my new addiction should it get picked up. Fingers crossed. XOXO.

As for Idol, apparently Simon Cowell told Jay Leno that he thought Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert would be the final two. As it should be. I haven't watched the video -- because it's Jay Leno, and I'm told I can't take a nap at work -- but that's supposedly what he said. The cranky judge is also apparently too busy to have dinner with President Obama. Also, Jennifer Hudson is going to be on the show at some point, but it won't be live.

George Lopez is getting his own talk show on TBS. One less thing I have to worry about watching.

HBO is making a movie about the Clintons and their relationship with Tony Blair. Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore have been miscast to play the power politicians.

Phil Keoghan made the foolish mistake of releasing the schedule of his cross-America bike riding trip. Mindy's already planning her stalking accordingly.

In news only I care about, Bob Barker is making a return to The Price Is Right. He'll be on hand to hawk his new book Priceless Memories (which I've added to my wish list... if anyone cares) and make contestants guess the suggested retail value of the memoir.

And in more news that only I care about, this guy Buddy Valastro who runs a bakery in Hoboken is getting his own reality show on TLC. I mostly mention it because they had really tasty desserts that I used to eat quite frequently after visiting one of Hoboken's many fine drinking establishments back when I lived in that town.
