According to Monsieur Ausiello over at EW, two major Smallville characters will die in the season finale, and one of them hasn't been around for that long. While part of me hopes the long-timer will be Clark Kent, it's more likely the one main character who doesn't exist in Superman mythology. Speaking of dead Smallville residents, John "Lionel Luthor" Glover will be guest-starring on Heroes tonight -- as Sylar's father, no less! Man, between Heroes, Smallville and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Glover should win the Worst Dad Ever award.

Following hot on the heels of the casting of Jonathan Silverman in a new comedy pilot last week, his fellow Weekender Andrew McCarthy has been cast in the spin-off of Gossip Girl. Congrats, Andrew -- looks like some good came out of the canceling of Lipstick Jungle, after all. Some more good, I mean.

In other 1980s/1990s news, Full House's Candace Cameron Bure has joined the show Perfect 10, about teenage Olympic gymnasts-in-training. As a mom, not a gymnast. Full House was a looooong time ago.

I thought I knew the answer, but just in case, I asked the people on staff who care about things like Ashlee Simpson and Melrose Place, and apparently, Ashlee Simpson joining the cast of the new Melrose Place is terrible, terrible news. But, on the bright side, it might prevent her from making any more albums.

Fans of sexy ladies in genre fiction, rejoice! In a sexy trinity of casting news, Morena Baccarin (Firefly) will join the cast of V as the leader of the alien Visitors; Nina Dobrev (Degrassi: The Next Generation) will be the object of two vamp brothers' affections in The Vampire Diaries; and Eliza Coupe (the surly new intern on Scrubs) will play a superhero in No Heroics, the remake of the Brit series about off-duty supers. Ahhh... Sometimes, it's good to be a nerd. (Case in point: Terminator and Firefly star Summer Glau will be guesting on Big Bang Theory tonight. Nerd wish fulfillment rules!)

All you had to tell us was that Sarah Michelle Gellar was in a new HBO comedy series, and we would have been there. You didn't have to give it a fun name, like The Wonderful Maladys, and you didn't have to tell us it was about three sibling New Yorkers who lost their parents at a young age. And you certainly didn't need to tell us that Nate Corddry (Studio 60) and Molly Parker (Swingtown) would play Gellar's siblings. In other words, you had us at Gell-o.
