Today's TWOP News: April 17, 2009

So unless you're one of the 26% of people that the Sprint commercial told me had never heard of Twitter, you know it's been a big week for tweeters. Tweeting? Twits? This lingo is killing me. Anyway: Ashton Kutcher won the race to 1,000,000 followers! Suck it, CNN. And Oprah's on Twitter now! Preemptively suck it, Ashton! But there's an even more exciting piece of Twitter news, one that brings us more joy even than the news that we can now follow Ice-T (and by the way...we're on Twitter too!)...

The Amazing Race is getting a 15th season! And Twitter told us! Actually, The Amazing Phil told us via Twitter in the midst of his country-crossing bike ride for MS, but same diff. Anyway, this marks the first time such news has been announced via tweet. And if you're wondering whether or not you should care about that degree of milestone...that's a decision I can't make for you.

Yes, yes, we know you've been hankering for a little McNamara/Troy news since we seem to be in some sort of annoying six episodes > year hiatus > six episodes > year hiatus holding pattern (and by we I suppose I just mean the 18ish of us...). Well here's a tidbit: Melanie Griffith has been cast as Kimber's mom. Unfortunately her arc doesn't start until Season 7, so mark your calendars for the year 2019!

The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco (Penny) has announced that she will appear in the season finale of Grey's Anatomy on May 14th. This comes on top of the news that Debra Mooney of Everwood and Liza Weil of Gilmore Girls will also guest star. Now if only Grey's were planning on making these casting changes permanent...

Portlanders (from Oregon -- sorry, Maine): July 5. Be there. Where? The kickoff of the American Idols Live! Tour, of course! Because you won't have had enough Danny Gokey in your lives by that point. Shudder.

Someone named DJ AM is getting his own intervention reality series on MTV. Qualifications? A heart-breaking and drug-addicted youth followed by ten years clean and sober...and the ability to cue up a killer set list with a single iPod. Dr. Drew just got served!

Everyone thought the idea to have Simon only talk to half the contestants was dumb, and everyone was right because they're getting rid of that stupid concept next week. In related news, you should probably give up on TiVoing Fringe ever again.

And because it's apparently impossible for me to end the week without talking about Speidi (it's no use complaining, sorry), here's some rather disturbing I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! castings news: Janice Dickinson, Geraldo Rivera, Dog the Bounty Hunter, and unfortunately the evil blonde ones themselves will be joining former governor Rod Blagojevich in Costa Rica. Once they get on broadcast TV there will be no stopping them, people. I warned you.
