BLOGS
They are making a CSI movie? Really? That sounds... boring and unnecessary. What could possibly unfold in a CSI movie that couldn't be contained in a regular episode? We didn't even enjoy The X-Files movie and we liked that show. While we'd love to see a Veronica Mars or Buffy or Deadwood movie... or that long promised Arrested Development movie, we've narrowed our list down to ten other shows that are currently on (or aired this season) that could be better on the big screen than CSI.
1. Battlestar Galactica
Let's got back to a time before the finale, back when the Cylons hated the humans and there was lots of fighting! That would make an excellent movie. There's plenty of flashback potential that could wipe away our bad feelings about the ending, or the Caprica pilot and still satisfy our BSG cravings.
2. Supernatural
It is amazing the cool and twisted horror and ghost tales that this show manages to tell on a weekly basis with a TV budget. Given a two-hour time slot and movie money, this could be better than so many of the ridiculous horror movies that constantly flood the theaters. And we'd never complain about seeing Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki larger than life size.
3. 24
We realize that there was already a movie called Die Hard and there really isn't a need for another action movie of this vein... per se. But just think about how awesome it would be see an intense two-hour Jack Bauer film. Torture, explosions and backstabbing... oh my!
4. Chuck
We can't even think of the idea of Chuck not being around on TV anymore, and we'd love to see this Mission: Impossible with a computer nerd live on somehow. What a better place than a movie?
5. Pushing Daisies
The vibrant oversaturated colors and the great cast might have been a bit too quirky for network television, but it could be the next Big Fish, with a guy who can bring dead people back to life.
6. Doctor Who
We're bummed that we only get a few more David Tennant episodes of Doctor Who, and we're wary of the new kid on the block, but who is to say that they couldn't make a big screen version of a fabulous Doctor and Rose adventure? Or Doctor and Donna even? We'd pay money for that.
7. Gossip Girl
It might be a challenge to come up with a plot to fill 90 minutes for this one that doesn't cover the same ground that we've seen a million times already, but it can't be any more boring than the Sex and the City movie. And the fashion would be fabulous. Heck, they could just have Blair and Serena walk a runway for 90 minutes.
8. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
The upcoming Terminator: Salvation film looks to be filled with all kinds of cool explosions and plenty of machines, but the show had a lot of interesting plot twists going on that could be explored in movie length. Plus, Summer Glau is way hotter than Christian Bale, can most likely kick his ass and we'd much rather stare at her for two hours.
9. Dexter
This Showtime series is practically crying out for a feature film. They can have one big crime to focus all of their energies on, have Dexter nearly getting caught and lots and lots of blood. There's got to be some book material left that they haven't covered yet.
10. House
If they are going to go the procedural route, let's at least have the big screen film be about this cantankerous doctor, so long as he's got an amazing case (that isn't lupus, naturally) and some of his annoying staff members (Thirteen and Foreman) get left behind. Maybe House interrupts Cameron and Chase's honeymoon and there's an ailing hotel guest? Just a thought.
We were tempted to add a Sookie Stackhouse True Blood movie to this list too, but we're not entirely sure that the movies can handle the fervor of a Twilight and True Blood box office showdown. There might be vampire-fans rioting in the streets and we can't have that.
What other current shows would you like to see movie version of? Or are you actually curious about a CSI movie?

christian bale is hot. who wouldn't want to look at him for two hours?
As long as they give us the Arrested Development movie I'm happy!
CSI - or any of the procedural mega-franchises, for that matter - just don't need to be stretched into a movie. Especially after being on the air for four hundred seasons. What's left to tell?
Supernatural, OTOH, would make for a fantastic movie!
Also, as long we're considering shows that aired this season, how about Kyle XY? That was a great show and cast, and since they didn't get to wrap up properly, I'd love to see this one do a movie.
Plus, Summer Glau is way hotter than Christian Bale, can most likely kick his ass and we'd much rather stare at her for two hours.
What you mean we, kemosabe?
There needs to be an Alias movie. Stat!
There BETTER be a Pushing Daisies movie. PD deserves nothing less.
And I third the Christian Bale thing--NOBODY is hotter than Christian Bale.
These were predicable. Mostly unsuccessful fanwanker shows. How about a movie based on a show that more then %10 of the tv viewing population cares about?
These were predicable. Mostly unsuccessful fanwanker shows. How about a movie based on a show that more then %10 of the tv viewing population cares about?
Ha! Its funny because its true, there are only three that get more than 4million viewers those are HOUSE, 24 and Dexter. Doctor Who would be cool though.
I fully support a Pushing Daisies movie if nothing else to give it a good send off like Serenity did for Firefly.
In addition to the Arrested Development and Veronica Mars movies...
I'd kill for an Angel movie. I'd rather have that than a Buffy movie, to be honest. Buffy had a satisfying conclusion, and while I thought that Angel's finale was pretty perfect, I'd love to see the gang in an apocalyptic LA like Joss wanted in the 6th season... as long as Wesley gets brought back. I don't care if he's a fucking ghost like in the comic books. I need my Wesley.
I also agree with more Pushing Daisies or Battlestar (though the new BSG tv movie The Plan sounds like it's going to be awesome).
Lastly, we need a Terminator movie with Christian Bale and Summer Glau. That would be a lovely combination.
@Kim - I'm sorry, but I can only support an Alias movie if they go back to the Season 1-style Alias for it! The last two seasons... heck, even season 3... was so lacking in the suspense and action of the first two. Was it the "Moonlighting" factor after the Sydney/Vaughn hookup? I dunno, but the show definitely lost luster after the first two years.
PS - it would have to be a prequel, because it just wouldn't be right without Jack, Sloane and Irina who would all be, let's say, unavailable, if the story continued from the end of the series!
"NOBODY is hotter than Christian Bale."
Yeah... this.
That said, we do need a Pushing Daisies movie. We need more Ned and Chuck and Emerson and Olive and Digby in our lives, right?
Well, to make Yep happy, let's go with the super popular shows! Uh, let's see.. American Idol, Dancing with the Stars.. Two and a Half Men.. Okay. We'll make movies out of those.
And not to nitpick, but every time they bring Rose back, I die a little inside. Doctor/Donna, please.
I totally agree. Doctor/Donna is the way to go unless you can bring back Eccelson for Doctor/Rose. Either way, I'd watch!
OMG, Pie maker Ned, Charlotte Charles, Emerson Cod and Olive Snook on the Big Screen? Where do I send the check? Woot!
"These were predicable. Mostly unsuccessful fanwanker shows. How about a movie based on a show that more then %10 of the tv viewing population cares about?"
To be honest, how many shows that regularly attract 10+ million American viewers would work as a movie? Would a Grey's Anatomy or Desperate Housewives film be any good?
Most of the shows on that list have premises that could most definitely be really cool as a two-hour movie, if done right.
I gotta go with Kyle XY!! We were left with an incredible cliffhanger and this TV show just oozed so much more potential. A movie would certainly tie up all the plotlines and with a movie budget we'd get to see all of Kyle's super abilities to an enormous extent. Lastly, Matt Dallas on the big screen would have us all swooning!
I would love to see a Chuck movie, especially if I'm not going to get to see a Chuck third season. But if you're looking for a Mission Impossible-type movie, I suggest bringing TNT's Leverage to the big screen.
Seriously we just need a Veronica Mars movie !! For Arrested Development it's a well go so no need to speak about anymore...
For these others shows they are always aired so no need to speak about.
For VM a movie is very important because it was aired for only three seasons whereas Buffy and Angel had 7 and 5 seasons they had their closure !
But a pushing daisies would be good with a "Tim Burton vibe"
Agreed with all. I think it would be great for a 2 hour long House movie, if it was to wrap up the story. Maybe there'll be flashbacks? I don't know. But the one I'm gunning for teh most is the Pushing Daisies one, directed by Bryan Fuller of course. I don't want anyone but him directing that movie.
There already was a 24 movie, before this season aired.
There was! It was called MI3
And...
Supernatural would make the best film! Every week I think that; particularly if you rewatch the Pilot or any of season one. It would definitely test the waters to see if Jensen could carry a epic film (*cough* test if he can handle Captain America as well as I predict).
As for the House film. Only if it's rated R and there's lots of sex -- between House and Wilson!
What better place for Chuck to live on than in a movie? Oh, I don't know, how about ON MY TV!!! I haven't given up on this show yet.
As for shows that need movies, my top two are Veronica Mars and Kyle XY.
I'd still take Serenity 2 over any of these...
Come on...I would much rather see a CSI movie than BSG! And I like BSG. This list is really ridiculous. But then I think this proves 'to each his/her own.' I want that CSI movie!
I'm for Veronica Mars, Buffy, Doctor Who.
And I have to agree - no Doctor/Rose please! I loved their story but they totally ruined it with the way she returned and then gone off again with a cheap copy. Doctor/Donna would we sooo cool on the big screen.
I'm for Veronica Mars, Buffy, and BSG.
And even though there has already been one moive on Firefly (Serenity), I want more. More of anything with Nathan Fillon is good.
Have to go with prematurely ended Kyle XY. The show has a great premise and almost limitless plot directions to take a movie. Has an incredible cast up and down the board and the show ended with a cliffhanger where a movie could pick up. Kyle taking down Latnok and finally getting his life of normalcy (in my opinion with Amanda) would make for an epic movie.
I agree. David Tennant and Catherine Tate had great chemistry. They were fun to watch.
Give the people what they want: A short "Grey's Anatomy" film in which Dr. Isobel 'Izzie' Stevens dies a horrible violent bloody death, and in so doing, manages to infect Dr. Meredith Grey with an incurable disease which kills her slowly and painfully, with hopes of recovery raised and dashed several times, and Dr. Meredith Grey finally dies after lots of screaming and crying.
I'd buy a ticket.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Lost yet. Of course, each episode almost feels like a movie!
But, yeah, I'd shell out a few bucks to see the adventures of Craphole Island on the big screen.
As for what was mentioned in the list, a Pushing Daisies movie MUST HAPPEN!!
Be careful what you wish for. We got a Dead Like Me movie, and it was BAAAAD.
1. Gilmore Girls
2. Veronica Mars
3. Angel
I would *so* buy a ticket to that movie, too, Kate!
I'm a fan of several of the shows on this list, but really--Supernatural seems perfect for a feature film. It really has all the ingredients!
"I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Lost yet. Of course, each episode almost feels like a movie! But, yeah, I'd shell out a few bucks to see the adventures of Craphole Island on the big screen."
I think nobody mentioned LOST because the showrunners have ardently promised (more than once) not to do a movie. Well, technically, they promised not to leave anything to wrap up in a movie... which is not QUITE the same thing, but basically is.
OMG, I would scream with happiness if a Pushing Daisies movie was made. Of course, it would have to still be by the wonderful Brian Fuller, kept all of the original cast, and kept the same production crew. I've seen what happens to movies based on TV shows that have been made more "Hollywood appropriate". It just does not work.
Farscape please. I miss John Crichton and gang.
As you can see from all that comments - it's a great inspiring article. Firefly - Serenity 2 comes to mind first too, Summer Glau getting the role of Christian Bale in the Terminator movies second, Deadwood third. Continue posting - it's an awesome thread.
A SUPERNATURAL movie would be AMAZING! I can barely contain myself thinking about how awesome that would be. In an ideal world, for me, Eric Kripke, Ben Edlund, & Sera Gamble would write it together, Kripke would direct, and both Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Misha Collins would be in it. And then I would die of happy.
I would love to see:
- Serenity 2
- Battlestar Galactica
- Pushing Daisies
- Chuck (but I'd much rather have it continue on TV)
- Veronica Mars
- Buffy and/or Angel
- the long-awaited Arrested Development movie
- Freaks and Geeks (if time-travel or a non-cheesy reunion scenario were possible)
- Summer Glau & Christian Bale Terminator movie (I'm pretty sure I could just watch those two fight for 2 hours, or even just hang out)
- Dollhouse (but it better get renewed, it's just starting to hit its stride!)
- Torchwood (as long as there's lots of Jack/Ianto)
- Queer As Folk (I know it won't happen, but I would be so very excited if it did; maybe just a Brian/Justin movie!?)
I would also definitely go see: Dexter, Weeds, Bones, (season-1-style) Alias, Leverage (would be fun, but I can take it or leave it), 30 Rock (though I'm not sure how well it would work at that length), Family Guy, House (especially if there's House/Wilson action), Deadwood, Gilmore Girls, Kyle XY (probably, if only for giant!MattDallas) . . .
Lost - I'm trusting them to wrap up satisfactorily on TV.
The idea of a CSI movie makes me die a little bit inside.
Pen: Jensen Ackles as Captain America!? That might just be AMAZING!
I would watch an American Idol movie if it was Simon Cowell, Ryan Seacrest, Adam Lambert, & Kris Allen on a road trip together (with appearances by: David Cook, Allison Iraheta, Joel McHale, Paula Abdul, & Michael Johns). Just think of the wacky times they boys would have!
Just think of the wacky times THE boys would have, not they boys.
Oh, and obviously Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki would be in the Supernatural movie. That goes without saying. Oh, and Jim Beaver! Gotta have some Bobby.
I don't know about *deserving* a movie, but I'll bet that Charmed and The Shield would both translate very well to the big screen.
My bigscreen wishlist, in no particular order:
1) Farscape
2) Deadwood
3) Veronica Mars
4) Buffy or Angel
There are also a lot of shows that I'd love to see revisited in a tv miniseries format, if only to see where life has taken the characters: Everwood, My So-Called Life, Felicity, Gilmore Girls.
I'd love a 24 or Chuck movie.
I was going to "WTF" about the anyone-being-hotter-than-Christian-Bale bit, but it seems many others have beaten me to it.
Such is life.
american idol the movie. survivor the movie. the real housewives of america the movie. the hills the movie. wife swap the movie (porn version). the bachelor the movie (porn version).
oh i forgot about dancing with the has-been stars the movie.
Oh my god, you guys are right. Sign me up for Serenity 2 and Freaks & Geeks as well, please.
Buffy, Gilmore Girls and a Gossip Girl movie with Blair and Serena walking the runway with intermissions by Chuck and Georgina saying awesome snarky things. I'd actually go see it in a theater and not wait for the DVD.
I think the Doctor and Rose has to be a typo. You mean Martha, someone who didn't wear out her welcome. And Donna, of course. Sweet, tragic, Donna.
Supernatural:The Movie
I'd watch that in a heart beat. The show, with a movie budget!?! Yes please!
And a Chuck movie would be totally awesome too. Forget Get Smart, Charles Carmicheal is in town.
Considering this is a list for shows that we'd rather a movie be made for than CSI, you could put almost anything on there.
I agree with Supernatural, Doctor Who (preferably with Donna), and Dexter. Though 90 minutes of Gossip Girl fashion is highly tempting, if I chose not to care about acting and/or plot.
Amen! To a Doctor/Rose Doctor Who movie. I would definitely pay for that...or more Doctor/Rose books. As for the rest...well they don't thrill me. Though I would REALLY like to keep Chuck on the small screen.
1. Alias
2. Terminator: TSCC
3. Alias
and pretty much just Alias.
Glad a lot of people agreed about Christian Bale being way hot. I'd watch him watch paint dry. Second all your choices, while suggesting (in no particular order and borrowing heavily from posters before me):
Everwood (nostalgia)
Gilmore Girls (miss Rory and Lorelai)
Veronica Mars (would kick ass)
Wonderfalls (brilliant sarcasm + you can never have enough Lee Pace)
Angel (anxious to see what happened after the finale)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (miss the gang)
The OC (yeah, it was pretty awful after the first season, but I still like Seth & Ryan)
Cupid (the original Jeremy Piven version; I LOVE that show!)
Action (awesome)
How I met your mother (Because Barney is larger than life, so he deserves to be seen larger than life)
Bones (perhaps the film would be better than the below par season; please?)
The Wonder Years (miss the show)
Burn Notice (Michael would kick even more ass with a film budget)
Dawson's Creek (am curious to what they are up to now)
Dharma & Greg (miss the quirky and fun)
Dirty Sexy Money (because unduly cancelled)
Due South (love Benton)
Early Edition (really liked the concept; miss it)
and SO MUCH MORE. Although, to be honest, I like CSI and while the film is a bit...unnecessary, it could still be fun, right?
Right?
Put me down for a Farscape movie. I'm still waiting for Rob Thomas to drop the million shows he's doing and finish that script for the Veronica Mars feature film. Sorry, Lieke, I could not sit through a Dharma & Greg movie. I have suffered enough in my lifetime.
For a woman, Christian Bale is totally hot.
What about a Carnivàle movie (closure)... it's probably too late.
Or some news from Vick Mackey and, above all... Ronnie Gardocki. We could see Vick trying to save Ronnie in prison. Vick could go in prison with a great tattoo...
A Buffy movie could be very fun too... Buffy ten years later.
Is a Supernatural movie really needed? Or, y'know, any more episodes of the show? Or any evidence that such an awful show ever existed?
Angel, Angel, Angel!
There have already been three Doctor Who movies (two non-canonical films from the 1960's starring Peter Cushing as the Doctor, and the one and only outing of the 8th Doctor in 1996--McGann was included in the timeline of Doctors in last year's Christmas special, though certain elements of that story (like him being half-human) have been mercifully forgotten)). That said, I'm all for another outing, on three conditions:
One, have someone other than Russell T. Davies write it. He's far too fond of deus ex machina plot twists, and while last season's finale was great, I've never quite forgiven him for the Tinkerbell/Jesus Doctor from the previous season.
Two, no more Rose. Sorry, her story is done, and every time they bring her back it reduces the time she was there.
Three, no Daleks! By my count, the last season finale was the third time they've supposedly been wiped out once and for all (fourth if you count the Time War). Of course they're going to be back sooner or later, but I vote for later. Unless they do a movie of the Time War.
Love the suggestions! I would pay to see a movie that gives closure to Angel. As a die hard Veronica Mars fan a VM movie would rock! Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared AWESOME! And should be given a movie. Also Serenity 2 would be fantastic!
Supernatural- on the big screen? Perfect- make sure the guests are former Buffy/Firefly/Angel people please!
But I fear Hollywood tends to kill talent and originality- hence the CSI movie- really WTF?
I'd like a Joan of Arcadia movie if only to reveal how Kevin ends up dancing at his wedding. Well, no, that is not the only reason.
I would love to see a Moonlight movie... there were so many unanswered questions!
Supernatural movie - definitely
If Kripke would only promise to go six seasons - he's only promised to go five seasons right now - then do a movie after it would be perfect.
Think of all the things they could add to a movie that they can't say, do, show on network TV
Buffy/Angel movie would be nice IF they could get the whole cast back
I would kill for a star trek: enterprise movie! Ha, j/k. I wanted to post the 'worst' idea for a movie from television.
I know it's been done, but I'd go for another "Friday Night Lights".
There have actually been intermittent rumblings about a Supernatural movie...but who knows if anything will actually happen?
Hasn't it always been said that "24" will get a movie eventually, and not just that "Redemption" TV movie thing?
I don't know; a Star Trek: Enterprise movie involving the Romulan War might work.
I'm with you; I would love a Farscape movie.
Well oshitiforgot, you wouldn't HAVE to go to see the film. But granted if it's a choice between a Veronica Mars film and Dharma & Greg I'd choose the marshmallow any day of the week.
Oufti: "For a woman, Christian Bale is totally hot", that cracked me up. Not sure that was your intention though.
Stephanie, I completely agree about the Joan of Arcadia film, because I was so excited about the season finale, only to find out that is was the series finale. Plus, Wenthworth Miller deserves to be on an actual good show and not that Prison Break drivel.
I comletely agree about Supernatural movie! That would be awesome, especially if they could reunite the boys and JDM.
And also Dexter, awesome show but it would make an even better movie, I'd go see it!
Amen Sister. I was'nt best pleased with the Angel ending. I want an Angel movie with Illyria and Wesley, any way I can get him.
I thought that the new X-Files movie was very enjoyable. Sure, it had its flaws and Chris Carter really needs to let go of some of the creative control, but I'm hoping for X-Files 3. Bring on collonisation!
Other than that, a Doctor Who film with DT's Ten and Rose (or Donna. Just no Martha, please)would definitely have my money. As would House, Geeks and Freaks and Gilmore Girls films.
I'd like to see movies that would wrap up great shows unceremoniously canceled: Joan of Arcadia, The Black Donnellys, The Ponderosa, Freaks and Geeks...
Any more?
Reaching WAY back (and probably showing my age) I'd love to see a Beauty and the Beast movie, with the wonderful Ron Perlman reprising the Beast.
I totally agree with a Supernatural movie!!!!
I disagree with everyone else here, apparently. The GREAT thing about TV shows is that they continue, hour after hour, week after week, for YEARS if we're lucky. Unless they bring back the old-style movie serials of the 1930's and 1940's, there is just no way that a 2 hour movie of 24 could match a 24 episode season of 24 - or any other TV series. And of course television is the reason movie studios stopped making serials - we now have TV for that - and hooray for it! Both X-Files movies, the Star Trek movies, the Doctor Who movies, Serenity - all perfectly fine, but extremely weak sauce compared to the more fully developed characters and universes possible in series television.
I am totally on board with a SUPERNATURAL movie. Can you imagine the kinds of things that can be translated onto the big screen? I would be one of the first on line.
My second pick would be KYLE XY. They really need to end that show like it deserves.
Look, obviously all of us would rather these dearly departed shows go on on television for an infinite amount of seasons. I mean, I loved Serenity but I'd rather it was never made if we could have gotten a few more seasons of Firefly.
It's just that it's never going to happen. With only a couple of exceptions, the shows that we lose never come back to us. Except - the last few years have given us the possibility of film continuations. Of course more tv seasons would be preferential but since it's never ever going to happen, movies are basically the last bastion of hope for sad people like us who are desperately hanging onto characters who we thought would be gone forever.
So pretty much: more TV would be best, but we'll take what we can get and try to be happy with it.
OMG Due South! Another fan! That is awesome. Although the pilot was a movie I was always a little dissatisfied with the ending myself, so I'm feeling you there. And a big YES to Freaks and Geeks in the fantasy land where Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Martin Starr et al could still feasibly pass as high school students.
Supernatural: The Movie would be kick ass. They could do a car chase scene and throw in a bunch of classic rock songs they could never afford off the CW's budget.
TSCC went on for 45 minutes times 31 episodes and end up no where.
Where do you think they could go in an additional two hours?
Yes, if the movie focused on Summer Glau, it would be worth watching. But it wouldn't because Josh Friedman is obsessed with Sarah Connor. And two more hours of "Crazy Sarah" would have everybody leaving the theater and committing suicide in solidarity.
Hello, The L Word....lesbians, where the h..... are you!!!!
Anything for 2more hours of Jennifer Beals, please..
You love it too. Yay! Nobody ever knows what I'm talking about when I mention Due South. But I miss it. Benton and Ray (even the new "Ray") and Diefenbaker and the theme song. Sigh.
Ahh, I'd LOVE a House movie! Noto sure if it could work, though...
While I don't know how they could match the intensity of the season finale, I'd love to see a Burn Notice movie where they pull out all the stops, bring in loads of awesome guest stars, and give Fi a no-holds-barred, movie budget-funded explosion!
Also, Christian Bale >>>>> ALL
supernatural would make an awesome film i would love to watch it i would watch it all the time jensen ackles is awesome i love supernatural x x
Kyle XY! Great series. Lots of potential. Great Cast. Awesome storyline. This is the movie I want!
Lets just get that Veronica Mars movie made and then see what else comes around. I agree that Angel would be a good one too, and Buffy would be nostalgic if everyone was on board.
ANOTHER
FIREFLY
MOVIE.
'nuff said.
I'm definitely for supernatural, die to watch jensen&jared and their tales on a big screen. It's gonna be a hit movie ever.
Dexter, great too, but it's kind minority and too much blood.
24 is good, but will never beat The Bourne series.
Drive.
Forever Knight
Space: Above and Beyond
