Warning: This post contains some spoilers about tonight's House episode. It does. I'm serious. Stop reading if spoilers make you mad. Just stop it right now. For everybody else, click ahead for the juicy details!
So Cuddy and House finally hook up tonight! And Lisa Edelstein graciously participated in a media call where the rest of the Internet and I tried to badger her into revealing more spoilers than she was allowed to. We did not succeed, but the call was hilarious, not only because Edelstein is funny and delightful herself, but, since it was almost entirely about her finally kissing House, the thing was like a middle-school slumber party, all "OMG did you guys kiss???" We all got in a time machine to our 7th-grade selves and dished about boys over pizza and zit stickers, basically. It was a weird call. Fun, but weird.
How many takes did you have to do to get it right?
Lisa Edelstein: We did probably about five takes. Yes, probably about five takes. We didn't really do it for that long, but it was more a question of making sure the cameras wanted to capture a lot of different things. But you know, I have a great friendship with Hugh, and he's super-sexy, so who could complain about kissing him?
How hot was the scene?
LE: You're not going to see me get naked or anything, but it was a pretty hot scene.
Why is Cuddy so into House when she's obviously too good for him?
LE: I don't necessarily think it will ever be a satisfying relationship in terms of both of them kind of settling in and saying this is what we're doing, but she has a complicated relationship with men, it seems. She likes the screwed-up ones. I totally relate.
I relate to her taste in men. I definitely don't have the best taste in men. I don't know that intelligence and taste necessarily go hand-in-hand. I think what we're attracted to in finding a partner is usually something that resolves some complicated piece of our past. For Cuddy, it's House, and it always has been.
What will having sex finally do to the relationship?
LE: Well, you'll have to find out.
Will we find out anything in the finale?
LE: Yes.
About how it's changed?
LE: Yes.
What was your reaction when Kal Penn announced he was leaving and the way they wrote out his character?
LE: We were all taken by surprise. They really kept it under wraps until the actual episode came out. From then on in, for the rest of the season, they were top secret scripts. We were given one copy of the script, the daily sides that we got; you know, you have these sides that are just the scenes for the day that you're shooting. Usually they're kind of floating around the stage and you grab them and you lose them and you grab another pair and you lose them, but this time they all had our names on them. We had to return them at the end of the day. It was all very top-secret, very hush-hush.
How did House and Cuddy become so close?
LE: Well, initially he was kind of legendary in the school she was an undergraduate in, and I think she was maybe even a little bit obsessed with him, and she ended up auditing a class that she knew he would be in. I think he was doing like a brush-up class or something, and she audited it to kind of check him out, because he was exactly the kind of lunatic she liked.
We haven't seen Cuddy's daughter in a while. Is she going to be more in the storyline?
LE: I don't know. I never know what they have planned.
What do you think about Cuddy's wardrobe?
LE: I love Cuddy's wardrobe. I tell you, I'll never wear another pencil skirt again, but I do, I love the wardrobe. I think it's sexy and chic and edgy for somebody in that position. I love what it says about her; that this is her realm. She lives her entire life in the hospital, so I think it's great.
How long do you think it will be before we see a swine flu-related episode?
LE: Who knows? We're not shooting right now. We're finished. We have done pandemic episodes. We did an episode about meningitis where the whole hospital had to be quarantined. Remember that one? It was like Season 3 or something, so we've already done that. That's so '05.
In this upcoming episode is there any chance that this is a twist? Will the Cuddy and House hookup be some sort of fake-out, a dream sequence or House is delusional or anything like that?
LE: Well, I mean there's a chance for anything, isn't there?
Thoughts on the Huddy hookup? Or Cuddy's wardrobe? Or pizza and boys? Leave 'em in the comments.

i love LE and i really hope the huddy sex isn't just some sick joke. can't wait for house tonight!
I absolutely love this woman! She has great facial expressions & good comic timing for some of the funny lines she is given to use against House! I personally don't like to see Cuddy & House hook up. They supposedly did 'hook up' before, when this show started, it was alluded to. So why is this such news is beyond me? They are just both getting older & alone, is all, & I think Cuddy's character is unsure & scared of her future. She likes House but I think the character of Cuddy is sort of confusing caring with love. It wasn't House who was happy when Cuddy decided to foster a child. It was Wilson. He was always bringing toys for the baby. You didn't see House there bringing anything but sarcasm. I want the old tough Cuddy back, sensitive but no-nonsense & not taking crap off House. She has gotten too soft. This is not how Cuddy started out. Why did the writers change her (and they have?) Love you Lisa....you're the greatest! Wish I could meet you!!!! You're the reason I watch the show!
I too like both pizza and boys. And Cuddy.
I hope they don't make a big relationshippy THING out of the hookup, but avoiding something as big and obvious as their attraction to each other is equally as annoying as destroying the sexual tension, so the odd hookup once every few years should not spell disaster for the show.
Plus, I'm pro-making-out-with-House under just about any circumstances, so, you know... there's that.
