Like many 24 fans, I have passionately hated Kim Bauer since Season 2, and that hatred has grown steadily over the years, due to her being the most annoying and stupid character in the show's history. So naturally, I was dreading her return ever since it was announced last year. But then she showed up and had a touching scene with her dying father, agreed to let him die in peace and walked away, and I wasn't nearly as annoyed as I thought I would be. In fact, I was almost moved by the scene despite myself. That did not, however, completely change my feelings about her. I still hated her. These things don't change overnight.
But after last night's quick thinking when she was busted by the enemy for being on the phone with the FBI, screaming a very Jack-like "Dammit!" after the shootout, heroically (and yes, stupidly, but it worked out fine so I'm sticking with heroically) tailing the bad guy so he wouldn't get away, then reaching into his burning car to steal his laptop, and finally calling Jack on his "Just lemme die!" bullshit and insisting on giving her stem cells for the experimental TerrorMist treatment, I am calling a truce with Kim Bauer. She has grown up to be a much better character than the ridiculous cougar trap victim with a tendency to date geriatric psychiatrists who are bitchy to Jack we used to know, and from now on I won't say I hate her on the internet anymore. Well played, 24. I never thought I'd see the day.
I've cued up the flaming car moment below. See for yourself! It wasn't even annoying or anything!

I agree, Kim owned this season, but not as much as Renee.
I actually found myself cheering Kim! That never happens. She finally showed she was Jack's daughter, not some waste of space. It was a nice surpize, actually.
I cheered too. It was great.
But why would Kim walk through the remnants of a giant shootout, chasing the bad guy, and NOT PICK UP A GUN?!?!
I realized after the finale that I wouldn't mind if Kim shows up next season. It's like waking up in an strange alternate reality.
"But why would Kim walk through the remnants of a giant shootout, chasing the bad guy, and NOT PICK UP A GUN?!?!"
Well, you can't expect the old Kim to be *entirely* gone, at least not yet.
This was just a really weird finale to a really weird season.
I still think Spawn 1 and Spawn 2 should join forces to be the bad guy next season. (Kim and Olivia Tayler...teaming up to re-direct a meteor via a huge giant evil magnet to destroy the earth and the only way anyone can stop it is if jack flys into outer space, on a ship he built himself, and I think it should pick up right where this finale left off, so he can be weird and shakey and dying the entire 24 hours)
yes. that...needs to happen.
