It's a hell of a news day! The American Gladiators are coming back, but not in the way you think, and Joan Rivers is coming back, not that we wanted her to. And Kevin Costner is saddling up! On TV! That's right, the Costnerlution will be televised!
Hot off her justly (?) deserved victory on Celebrity Apprentice, Joan Rivers is getting a new TV show, in which she asks rich people the title question, How'd You Get So Rich? I... I really don't know that I'd tell Joan Rivers anything of the sort. But then, I would never let Robin Leach into my house, either. Luckily, I'm not rich, so I don't have to make these decisions.
In what is possibly the most amazing news I've heard in the last several hours, American Gladiators the TV game show will be made into American Gladiators: The Movie. Set in the world of the show, the action movie will introduce all-new Gladiators, which I'm sure makes Wolf very sad. Apparently, Gladiators was originally intended to be a movie? Who knew! I did. In my heart.
Fans of Hawaii 5-0 rejoice. A&E has greenlit a pilot for a new Jerry Bruckheimer-produced police procedural set in Honolulu. In it, a former Honolulu cop sets out to avenge his girlfriend's death by joining a group of detectives called the "Cooler Kings." (That's also the name of the show.) Dog the Bounty Hunter's involvement has not been confirmed.
Also greenlit, the ABC sci-fi series Flash Forward, starring Joseph Fiennes, Courtney B. Vance and John Cho, in which everyone on Earth falls asleep for two minutes and sees six months into the future. ...But since they've already begun airing teaser ads for it during Lost, you probably already knew that.
In other A&E news, the network will dance with wolves when they get Costner to produce a four-hour Western mini-series. He may direct part of it, and there's even a part he's eying. Fingers crossed!
Meanwhile, three pilots have been passed on: NBC lost Katee Sackhoff's police procedural Lost and Found and posted bail on Kristin Chenoweth's father-daughter legal drama Legally Mad (they had to pay a penalty to get out of that one); also, ABC has dropped Lauren Graham's talk-show host comedy. Oh, and canceled cartoon Sit Down, Shut Up will no longer finish out its run in Fox's 7:00 slot, because it's highly inappropriate for that time slot, something I could have told Fox myself.
