Billy Mays Was Such a Sales Pro, Not Even a Screaming Conan Could Stop Him As we are all regrettably aware, last week was the worst, in terms of celebrity welfare. We lost Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcett, then Michael fricking Jackson, then late night infomercial titan Billy Mays suddenly died yesterday. That is so sad! I don't know why, but it's really freaking me out to think that Billy Mays will never shout me to sleep at 4 AM on a Sunday morning with a new infomercial ever again. What am I going to unwisely buy in the middle of the night now? Pizza? I can't secure a bookshelf to the wall without screws or brackets with a pizza like I can with all that Mighty Putty I bought that one time. Can't do it with Proactive either. See what I mean? Billy Mays was an important part of my life!

Anyway, in case you were also feeling inexplicably awful about Billy Mays' passing, this clip of him being really fun on The Tonight Show last week has been making the rounds today, and it's pretty great. Conan is on fire in it, just completely ripping on his products and declaring them useless and unnecessary (in a really funny, non-asshole way), and Billy just kind of laughs it off and forges forward, managing to stay on-message the entire time. It's pretty impressive. As is his defense of one of his products, which one might need in case one has any "drunken drinkin' friends!" Oh, Billy Mays. You knew me so well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel so terrible about Billy Mays passing away! I have a strange fondness for infomercials (especially at 3 AM) and his personality was gold, if not a little off-putting at the same time. He'll be missed

I saw this before I heard about what happened and watching it now breaks my heart a little. He seemed like a good guy and I will miss hearing him yell, I mean project, at me to buy his latest gadget.

i know that I am HUGELY in the minority here, but I am more sad about Billy Mays and Farrah Fawcett dying than Jackson.

I watched this on Conan when it was on, and then saw that Billy had died and I freaked out a bit. I couldn't get over the fact that I'd just seen him on TV and now he was dead. And not that I actually knew any of the people who died, but I felt like I knew him best. His voice was always yelling at me from somewhere in my house. It makes me sad.

I have a fond spot for Billy Mays. My younger son had colic from the age of 6 weeks till he was four months old, and I have no idea how many nights I spent rocking him while Billy Mays bellowed at me. My younger son is now ten months old, and I still occasionally get him to go down for a nap by playing Orange Glo commercials on YouTube.
