BLOGS
It's a bright, sunny day in New York City. As I'm typing this, the sunlight is streaming through the window, and I can hear the crowd of tourists bustling down below--all a mockery of today's news, which consists of death, sadness and more death. If you can get past the depressing start, things will look up, because there's some regular TV news.
In remembrance of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson made an unexpected appearance at the end of the 2009 BET Awards last night to pay tribute to her brother and thank fans for their support. The awards ceremony, which recognized celebs in different fields of entertainment, was dedicated to the late pop singer, and opened and closed with the Jackson 5's hit songs. RIP MJ.
More depressing news -- infomercial king Billy Mays died in his sleep at 50 years old. I had seriously always wanted to get some OxiClean during commercial breaks. Impressionist Fred Travalena, who was known as "Mr. Everybody," famous for his impersonations of public figures and TV guest appearances, died yesterday at 66 years old. And even though I wasn't born yet to witness her fame at its peak, it's still disheartening to hear that Gale Storm, a popular TV actress in the '50s, passed at the ripe age of 87.
After losing her soul to the Devil as Andi Prendergast in The Reaper, Missy Peregrym is trying her hand at another action-packed, potentially life-threatening TV series as Andy McNally, the lead in the Canadian cop drama Copper. With a less annoying name, maybe she'll play a less annoying character this time around.
For all you crazed Jack Bauer-loving fans, there's another man on the show that needs some drooling over. Dark-haired hunk T.J. Ramini will join the cast of 24 in a recurring role as Tarin Karoush, an associate of a Middle Eastern leader. His guest appearance on Desperate Housewives as the Israeli boot camp instructor who got Gabby back into shape only shows how much fun he is to watch even when it's all work and no play.
And for some light-hearted news, Indian animation producer DQ Entertainment is co-producing a 3D cartoon TV series based on America's most beloved dog Lassie.
