Today's TWOP News: June 3, 2009

I would say the round up of news is pretty heavy with drama for a Wednesday. Here we have a spy thriller on the rise, the potential downfall of a marriage, and a conservative housewife turned cougar. Things are looking up to what I thought would be a boring mid-week day.

I have never watched Burn Notice, but I take it that it's a show that will leave you sitting at the edge of your seats. And because one spy thriller isn't nearly enough, USA Network felt compelled to double their chances at success and create a new spy thriller television series: Covert Affairs. But, seriously, the name Covert Affairs? For a spy thriller? Sounds original...

It is in our human nature to watch train wrecks happen in motion. We're just sadistically wired that way. So, it's really not a surprise that the ratings of Jon & Kate Plus Eight episodes remained strong even after the fifth season premiere -- especially when all of America was waiting with bated breath to watch the demise of Jon and Kate's marriage and their family's happiness. Someone please get Kate a new hairdresser and maybe this whole mess can be cleared up.

Since we can't get enough of this pretty boy (with not so pretty hair), Zac Efron will play himself in an episode of HBO's Entourage in the sixth season. But here's hoping that Entourage will remain a hilarious and witty show instead of yielding to tween pop stars. [Ed. note: Hey, our intern likes Entourage. We knew someone was still watching that show. Now we know who.]

Remember Kelly Bishop who played Emily Gilmore, mother to Lorelai and grandmother to Rory on Gilmore Girls? Well, she caught a break and will be guest starring in the sixth season of Army Wives as a widow -- a cougar, no less. What would her former uptight, stick-up-her-butt, conservative Emily Gilmore character say? How scandalous!

After sustaining an injury shortly after Dancing With the Stars began, runner-up Gilles Marini waited for the season to be over to finally undergo surgery. To any adoring, sex-crazed fans out there who remember him from his naked role as Dante in the Sex and the City movie, the surgery went well and Marini is healing.
