The music world and the television world collide today with castings of Susan Boyle, TLC's Chilli, and Salt n' Pepa's Pepa, and I gotta say... I don't hate it. Also, Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni are awesome and will continue to be awesome, and of course, TWoP News would be nothing without a requisite Jon & Kate mentioning.
Attention all mommies! You can stop holding your breath, because Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay have signed on for two more seasons of Law and Order: SVU! Also returning on a limited basis is Stephanie March, and Christine Lahti will guest star for the first 4 episodes of the season.
My Name is Earl fans, fret no longer, for creator-exec producer Greg Garcia is in the process of creating a new show for Fox. The untitled comedy will follow a 25-year-old who teams up with his quirky family to raise an infant, the result of his one-night-stand with a woman who ended up on death row for murder. Sounds super.
Speaking of things that are maybe funny, Chris Kattan will be joining the cast of The Middle as Frankie's good friend Bob, making this his first TV series since SNL. But first he has to star as himself in a Bollywood-themed mini-series. Who knew his dancing skills were so diversified?
Apparently Susan Boyle has been awarded the nickname SuBo, which doesn't seem to execute as well as it should, but that's beside the point. The real news is that she'll be appearing as herself on Ugly Betty. The UK publication The Sun deemed the casting of "the Scottish virgin" appropriate because she is also a "hairy-eyebrowed but lovable wannabe." Now if that isn't a compliment I don't know what is.
Drea de Matteo will be joining the cast of Desperate Housewives as the matriarch of a new Italian family on Wisteria Lane. Typecast? Maybe a little. Does that bother us? Not so much.
Please let Jon & Kate stay true to their word that they will not be speaking to the media during this "difficult time." What we all need is a nice, long (preferably infinite) break. This is a start, along with the postponement of Kate's new book.
VH1 might be pushin' it on this one. Salt n' Pepa's very own Sandra "Pepa" Dalton and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas of TLC fame will each have their own "looking for love" reality shows in 2010. Not so original, but it's hard to say no to the return of hip-hop has-beens. The network has also given the green light to The Entertainer, a bachelor-style dating show in which contestants attempt to woo Frank "The Entertainer" Moresco (I Love NY, I Love Money) out of his parents' basement.
