Today's TWoP News: June 9, 2009

Remakes are all the rage in the news today with talks of a new Saturday Night Fever (take one guess at who's the prime candidate for a new Tony Manero) and a film adaptation of the 1980s series The A-Team. Can't anyone think of new material these days? Even TBS is considering taking up My Name Is Earl. Read on -- it's not all that bad.

Personally, I can't really picture The A-Team without Mr. T. That's probably because the only thing I know about the show is that Mr. T was on it. But still, negotiations for Liam Neeson to star as Hannibal and Bradley Cooper as Faceman in the Joe Carnahan-directed film sound promising.

It's too late to apologize for this one, Simon Cowell. You want Timbaland to do the soundtrack for a remake of Saturday Night Fever?! Why must you destroy a classic? Do you not get enough pleasure from shamelessly crushing the dreams of millions of aspiring artists? As for the potential Travolta replacement, all I have to say is if I can't have you, Zac Efron, I don't want nobody, baby.

Best Week Ever is going on hiatus...forever?!? Supposedly it is set to return in January, but with a break so unusually long, some staff of the show aren't so sure. Guess that Tompkins guy wasn't as funny as everyone thought.

Contrary to the potential fate of BWE, it looks like David Letterman will be Top Tenning it for a while. The Late Show host is currently making plans to stick with CBS for at least 3 more years, and though he hasn't quite managed to top Conan in the ratings yet, at least he's got Howard Stern on his side.

Just when we thought it was over, Twentieth Century Fox TV and TBS are considering picking up My Name Is Earl for another season. According to the article, representatives of the networks "declined comment." Maybe they're embarrassed?

The next season of 24 just may have the most diverse audience ever next season. The grunting "Jack Bauer makes Chuck Norris cry" type, the squealing 90's heartthrob fangirls (yay Freddie Prinze Jr.!) and now sci-fi nerds can tune in as Katee Sackhoff of Battlestar Galactica takes on the role of data analyst Dana Walsh.

I don't know about the show, but please tell me at least that the BWE Blog will keep on keeping on.

Why would they be embarrassed? MNiE is a generally funny show, and better than a lot of other "sitcoms" on t.v. that keep getting picked up and nominated for big awards (*ahem* Two and a Half Men *ahem*). I'll be thrilled if TBS picks it up.

I would watch Bradley Cooper read the dictionary.
