The show alternates between show-behind-a-show scenes in the writers' room and their offices, and the actual taping of a show, which consists of the guys on a stage doing standup and throwing to pre-recorded sketches, much like their Michael and Michael tour, backed by a laugh track. The standup bits and sketches are funny (Fatal Sweater IV in particular was amazing), but of course the meat of the show is these two sniping at and one-upping each other behind the scenes.
Bitchy Michael Ian Black is one of my favorite things in the world, and Showalter is at his best when he's doing that oblivious egomaniac thing, and the show really showcases the best of them both. And, as I said before, it's really, really funny. Whether they're having a prancey lawn fight or cruelly firing a poor, defenseless intern, they're just a joy to watch together. Plus they brought their friend Chris Meloni in for a cameo! This show is officially one of my summer obsessions.
