Today's TWoP News: July 6, 2009

It's the middle of summer, and for some, season premieres are only weeks away. So here's an update on guest stars (ahem, a certain former Disney tween sensation), new directors, possibly a new talk show with a certain ex-governor, and future TV shows.

The spawn of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis is trying her hand at some serious acting. Not. After guest starring in Army Wives, CSI: Miami, and Medium, Rumer Willis will be making her fourth TV debut by appearing in at least one episode of 90210 as Gia, a lesbian reporter for a news show. Really, Rumer? Really? Is that all there is for you out there?

Is Hilary Duff bitchy enough to fit in with the Upper East Side crowd? Disney's ex-pop princess will be guest starring on Gossip Girl as Olivia Burke, a movie star at NYU looking for a college experience who ends up rooming with Vanessa. My guess is that the cast won't be embracing the newcomer. Read: Blair. I see a love triangle in the works.

ABC is desperate to try, well, anything since there's nothing left of Grey's Anatomy to ruin. That being said, Chandra Wilson, who plays Dr. Miranda Bailey, or "The Nazi," will direct an episode on the sixth season of Grey's. But who knows. Maybe a new take is what the show needs for revival.

Now that Sarah Palin has resigned as Alaska's governor, there has been talk over what her future might look like -- in cable news. TV producers and packagers have claimed that Palin would be a "get" in a news or daytime talk show. But without a hidden political agenda, what ever would Palin say that would be interesting enough for America?

And speaking of talk shows, in just the first month of watching Conan O'Brien on the Tonight Show, the median age of viewers fell from 55 to 45. So Conan got what he wanted and shifted the demographic by weeding out the oldies... which explains the decline in ratings. You can't make everybody happy.

Jon and Kate were seen together with the kids celebrating Independence Day, doing normal family stuff like playing volleyball and lighting sparklers. The show may be on hiatus to give the family time to "regroup," but that doesn't stop the media. Will the paparazzi ever let up? Poor kids.

It may be the end for Detective Casey Shraeger and her colleagues at the NYC Homicide unit in ABC's The Unusuals, but not for the show's creator Noah Hawley because he just inked a deal with ABC to write two more projects. Not bad at all.
