Ugly Betty seems to be taking over today, but a few gems managed to shine through, like an awesomely new graphic-novel-turned-series about zombies as well as the greenlight for lots of scripted shows from an unexpected network.
After one too many news stories about Paula Abdul's next big venture, I sincerely hope that this will be the last. This ex-Idol judge just landed herself a new gig -- to guest star in next season's Ugly Betty as a temp who bonds with Amanda. Maybe she's the next Lindsay Lohan? Well, anyway, she's not the only new star on the show. Yaya Dacosta, ANTM alum from cycle 3 is taking over the role of Willie's rebellious daughter.
Hey ladies, don't say goodbye to Zach Gilford just yet because this hottie isn't going away as soon as we thought. His season four farewell arc has extended from five to seven episodes in the first half of the fourth season of Friday Night Lights. Yay!
Just to make our wait for our favorite fall TV shows to begin even more unbearable, NCIS announced that there is a jaw-dropping twist so huge that "you cannot miss the first minute" of the premiere. In other news, Tony and Ziva take their relationship to the next level. Can't wait now, can you?
After everything that happened with Paula and Ryan Seacrest, I guess Simon wanted to make some headlines too, because he is negotiating a $45 million deal to stay on for at least three more seasons. It's a gross amount of money, but it makes sense since what's American Idol without Simon Cowell's destroying someone's self-esteem?
In an era of endless reality shows, we thought that scripted shows were coming to an end, but they're not! MTV just greenlit five scripted shows for 2010 because "reality is not an ownable position anymore." Well, whatever that means, I'm happy because while entertaining, too many non-famous people I don't care about are getting their own show, and that's a huge turn off.
I've never read the graphic novel series "The Walking Dead," but it's still cool that it's getting picked up. AMC is looking to adapt the series, which is about a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse in search of a place to live. With everyone's obsession with death and the supernatural, I'd say this is going to be big.
I thought Grey's Anatomy was dead, but I guess not because it's getting picked up... in Bogota, Colombia. A telenovela version of the show, A Corazon Abierto (An Open Heart) is under production, and is being adapted by our good friend Fernando Gaitan, who wrote Colombia's Yo Soy Betty, La Fea, which became our beloved Ugly Betty.
