Today's TWoP News: August 19, 2009

It's all about the casting news this week, as three of our favorite actors joined shows this week, a couple of scary dudes were give their own shows, and a couple of very high-profile celebrities signed on to appear on two of our favorite reality shows. You want names? We got names after the jump.

From Prison Breaker to detective, Amaury "Sucre" Nolasco will join Southland as a partner to Det. Lydia Adams. In geekier news, Firefly and Alias vet Gina Torres will play Vanessa's mom on Gossip Girl, and Buffy and Torchwood alum James Marsters will join the cast of Caprica as terrorist Barnabus Greeley. Squeee!

In case you were wondering why Chima recently became only the third person to ever be given the boot from Big Brother, it wasn't for anything she said -- it was what she did. Apparently, she destroyed a microphone (on purpose, by dropping it in the jacuzzi) and the destruction of production equipment is against the rules. If I was going to get kicked off a show for destroying a microphone, I'd at least use a hammer. You know, for fun.

The writers of the last three Saw movies and recent horror flick The Collector have sold a horror series to ABC called Clive Barker's Hotel. The haunted-hotel show will be produced by Barker and McG, with McG possibly directing. Here's hoping Barker plays the desk clerk, and McG cameos as a bellhop.

Speaking of scary TV shows, Oliver Stone will create a 10-hour documentary series for Showtime exposing the secret history of America. Prepare to have your mind blown!

The American Idol producers are apparently conducting focus groups to see if they should take Paula Abdul back as a judge, but meanwhile, they're moving ahead and booking Joe Jonas as a one-time-only replacement. Isn't he younger than most of the contestants?

And while she won't be a judge, actress Nicole Kidman will introduce a challenge on tomorrow night's two-hour Project Runway All-Star Challenge. We'd rather she was a judge, but we'll take what we can get.
