Today's TWoP News: August 3, 2009

Some good news: the original Futurama voices are back, two new TV series are in the works, an all-time favorite game show gets a makeover, and a former model gets to guest star on a show. And some bad news: a talk show is a no-go and there's yet another weight-loss reality show.

Futurama fans can breathe a sigh of relief because the characters won't be getting a voice do-over after all. The original voices of the Futurama cast will be returning to the show's reboot of 26 new episodes on Comedy Central. The show just wouldn't have been the same.

I'm no country singer fan, but it's still sad to hear that Marie Osmond's talk show, Marie, has been put on hold because of the "unfavorable economic climate." Man, the recession is just crushing people's dreams left and right. Maybe she should jump on the bandwagon and get a reality show instead. It seems to be the trend these days.

But this talk show host doesn't seem to have any trouble landing gigs. Tyra Banks has just signed on to guest star in Gossip Girl -- and will not play herself. She will star as an actress alongside Hilary Duff's character. Seeing as how Tyra's last acting job was five years ago, I don't even think her trademark fierceness and ridiculous ANTM antics will be able to help up her nonexistent acting abilities.

Now that the gang of stoners of That '70s Show has gone up in smoke, Fox is looking to recreate a similar coming-of-age comedy -- but with rednecks. The Rednecks & Romeos is set in suburbia and centers on a group of working-class teens whose family struggles with the harsh economy, like bankruptcy and unemployment. Sounds more depressing than comedic to me.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Who Wants to be a Millionaire is returning to primetime -- Hollywood edition. The popular game show is channeling a little bit of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! (without the Costa Rican jungle, trauma tanks and tarantula-eating food challenges) where Hollywood stars, like LC, Snoop Dogg and Katy Perry, get to sit in the hot seat and win money for their charity. How mighty and altruistic of them.

We all thought we saw the last of Connor after he broke Willie's heart (though she'd never dare to admit it), committed embezzlement, fled to God knows where, and basically drove Mode to the brink of bankruptcy. But guess what, he's back. Grant Bowler just signed on to star in multiple episodes in next season's Ugly Betty. Charming as he may be, he best sleep with one eye open because he sure made a lot of enemies, and Willie's not known for being on her best behavior.

The recession isn't setting this reality show back. Merv Griffins Prods. is developing a traveling weight-loss reality competition series starring Harley Pasternak, a famous fitness and nutritionist expert. Umm sounds just like The Biggest Loser. How many more weight-loss reality shows can there possibly be?
