I've been surprised by how much I've been enjoying this season of Brothers & Sisters so far. No more Tommy, they've listened to the fan outcry and reduced Ryan's role, Kitty's cancer was introduced tastefully and is being dealt with in an emotionally effective way, Kitty and The Senator are, for the most part, finally behaving like adults and being far less stupid than usual about their relationship, The Senator's political blackmail problem has been squashed, and the show is always more hilarious when Sarah's getting laid, so I'm pretty happy.
I still have complaints, of course -- this has never been a perfect show -- but so far it's felt like the right mix of tearjerker and farce that I don't remember it being since as far back as the middle of the second season. I can't remember the last time I giggled like an idiot (Gilles Marini teaching Justin to dance) and then turned around and got teary (Gilles Marini teaching Nora to waltz) in the same Brothers & Sisters episode. It's been a while, and this is the first time it's consistently been this good in years.
And that brings me to why I'm nervous. Next week's preview showed Tommy returning to yell at his mother and be a prick again, which is just the same old crap I was so relieved we were rid of. I know he's not returning on as a series regular, but the fact that they thought it would be a good idea to go back there for an episode worries me, especially when it also seems that Holly being swindled for all her money and not being able to pay for Rebecca's wedding is also going to be a major plotline. It just seems like well-worn Walker territory that has never really worked all that well. And don't think Holly and Sarah aren't going to find out Ryan gave William's old mustache-twirling partner that business intel a few episodes ago; we're definitely going to have to deal with that, and I just don't care about it at all.
Hey, I have an idea -- can we just burn Ojai to the ground for good and bury it in a twin plot next to the Greenatopia storyline that was so casually cast aside last season? I doubt anyone would miss it, and we could focus back on the Walkers being the quirky rich whiners and winos we know and love. That's always been why we've tuned in in the first place, show. No embezzlement or surprise siblings or Ojai-is-in-trouble storylines needed, especially not anymore. Honest!

Tommy is part of their family, it is expected that he will come and go sometimes. I don't see the issue. Now, I'd take Tommy back anyday if they got rid of Holly. Damn nepotism.
I was never a fan of the show. I have watched now that Gilles Marini has a part. He probably should be made a regular. His character was great and I think the role could definitely be expanded!
Hate ojai scenes, not a huge fan of Holly. Why, oh why, does Rebecca want a big wedding? Her mom is his dad's former mistress, no one ever gets along in their families, yet she wants a big white wedding and thinks it will go off without a hitch?? And now, Holly can't afford it? Elope! Besides, Justin's in medical school...it would be easier for him to elope. (also, does anyone remember rebecca has an inheritance somewhere that she refuses to touch because it's from Justin's dad? Use it for the wedding!)
I disagree about Tommy. I miss him more and more as each episode becomes soapier and weaker than the last. This season has been the worst so far, and part of that is the fact that the Walkers have become guest stars in their own show. Now it's all about Holly and Scotty and Robert. What happened???? Dump them all and bring back Tommy. Make this show about Norah and all her kids. That will bring back the magic from past seasons.
I've watched the show on and off. Like MaryAnne, I am watching it regularly now cuz of Gilles Marini. He is such a good (& sexy) actor. It'll be interesting to see how this all turns out with him and Sarah. :)
Is there a write in or something that we can do to keep Gilles on the show? He's sexy, funny and damn good holding his own next to Sally Field.
I love the show! And I love it more that I get to see Gilles Marini. Tommy's plot line has gotten way out of hand - he dealing with demons that I haven't been about to care about and would it hurt to have given Holly a dreadful disease instead of Kitty? I love that Kitty and Robert are progressing but Robert should be more of a hands on father, he's rarely in any scenes with the baby... Did I mention I love Gilles on the show? Keep Gilles, who cares about anyone else?? :p
I've watched the show from the very first episode. I'm not a Tommy or Holly lover. They could both take a hike and I wouldn't care. However, and it's a big However...Gilles Marini has been absolutely wonderful. Take away the fact that he is gorgeous and built like an Adonis, he can act. Keep him on the show. You'll have a lot more people tuning in.
I'm a new watcher of Brothers and Sisters. I started last year and with the addition of Gilles Marini i love this show. Last weeks episode with Luk teaching Ryan to dance was so funny. Lets keep Gilles on.
Vive Gilles Marini!! He has taken the show up a notch. Last week's episode was so enjoyable to watch...yes, the laughter and the tears. I agree, it's why we watch the show...all the family interaction, craziness, the miscommunciation, the breakthroughs with wonderful Sally Field in the middle of it all. Her mother daughter scenes with Kitty concerning the cancer are heartbreaking and spot on. I am a cancer survivor and I appreciate what a great job they are doing.
Thought I loved the show from the start, but wow, Gilles has made it must-see TV! Love the addition; sexy, funny, sensitive, eye-candy!! Keep him as a regular!
Have never watched the show until Gilles Marini came on board. He is just great. Looks as if he was to act as well as he dances.
Love those bedroom eyes. Keep a good thing going.
I love the Gilles' story line and Kitty's, although it seems like that poor adopted boy of them doesn't really exist in their life. How I really feel: Tommy character is annoying to watch, and Ryan...Why is he even in the story? Not jumping for joy at the Rebecca & Justin's story either.
I am final, I am sorry, but you could not paint little bit more in detail.
Thanks
Socco
WOW More Gilles
Agree with most of what's been said. Less Ojai, less non-Walkers (apart from Rob and Gilles). I just skip past the Holly parts if I can. I agree that Tommy is annoying, but it has also rung false that he hasn't been around when his sister has cancer. I can cope if he's there in small amounts.
Have watched B&S from the beginning because of Calista and Sally Fields. Almost stopped watching because last season was totally lame until I found out Gilles is going to be in it. Now am back and hooked. Hope they will let Luc become a permanent character. I will buy the whole season's DVD if they do.
I love thi show, in particular Kevin and Scotty. (Because they seem to add so much comedy). And I am really enjoying this season. I dont mind Tommy coming back, because in a big family, there is often one annoying one. You love them, but sometimes they drive you to distraction. And he wont be around for long. I can't can't can't abide Holly though and I cringe every time she opens her mouth. She should just throw herself over a cliff now to make me happy.
