The funny and the obscure collide this week, as some funny shows (some live-action, some animated) meet some obscure shows (some from Britain, some just strange) and there are even some obscure and funny shows, which are the best kind, because they make you feel better and better than everyone else.
Legend of the Seeker: The Complete First Season
Sam Raimi is cock of the walk over in the Movies on DVD listings, so why shouldn't he be the scarlet-crested cock-of-the-rock in TV land as well? His latest foray into first-run syndicated television (after Xena and Hercules), Legend of the Seeker is an adaptation of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth book series, and has nothing to do with the movie The Seeker, which is kind of confusing. (Luckily, I found out before I actually went and rented The Seeker -- that was a close one.) But this show features kick-ass action, mystical powers, and the Gyro Captain from The Road Warrior as a wizard, so it's worth checking out. Don't expect as light a tone as Xena, but do expect more cleavage and leather outfits.
The Mighty Boosh: Seasons 1-3
Give in to peer pressure already and watch this ridiculously surreal series from England, which is like The Young Ones meets Flight of the Conchords in another dimension.
Flashpoint: The First Season
We will watch anything to get our regular dose of Enrico Colantoni, even this engaging Canadian law-enforcement drama.
Futurama: The Complete Collection 2
Because any time you can buy four seasons of a TV show that come in a severed robot head, you absolutely should.
The Hunger: The Complete Second Season
Whoever convinced David Bowie to host an erotic anthology series, bravo. You have combined two of my favorite things in the world.
Also out this week:
Inspector Lewis: Series 2 He's the protege of Inspector Morse, and he always gets his chap.
Married... With Children: The Complete Eleventh Season I can't believe this show lasted 11 seasons. Or can I?
Lovejoy: The Complete Season 6 Buy one season of young Ian McShane, or ALL OF THEM.
Girlfriends: The Complete Seventh Season Girlfriend, you have got to get yourself this DVD.
Wycliffe: Series 2 Another crime series, set in the rough-and-tumble county of Cornwall. Man, England is dangerous.
