Sex and death abound in this week's offerings! If someone's not hooking up, they're putting perps underground, or talking to ghosts or something. I guess that covers most TV, doesn't it? Never mind. Read on!
Ally McBeal: The Complete Series and Season One
Also called Single Female Lawyer by the Futurama crew, this show was a virtual who's who of today's working TV actors. Calista Flockhart! Jane Krakowski! Peter MacNicol! Portia De Rossi! Lucy Liu! Courtney Thorne-Smith! James LeGros! Even Robert Downey Jr., in his first, aborted comeback! Only that dancing baby has fallen on hard times. We hear it's developing a satirical Web series about how it's hard to be a computer-generated baby in Hollywood.
Murphy's Law: Series 1
If you loved James Nesbitt in Jekyll, you may or may not love him as hard-drinking London cop Tommy Murphy! Hey, we don't know your tastes. But if you dig Irish accents, undercover policework, drugs, blackmail, murder and clever-but-overused TV show titles, this might be the show for you. Admit it, Murphy's Law is the best title a TV show or movie can have, which is why there are, like, three TV shows and five movies that have that name.
Blood Ties: Season 2
Tough female cop? Check. Sexy vampire comic book artist? Check. Congratulations. You just created the best TV show ever.
Nip/Tuck: Season 5, Part 2
Curse you, show, for making us wait so long for the second half of that crazy season.
Medium: The Complete Fifth Season
They recently started airing this series on Lifetime, starting with Season 1, and man, I have never watched so much Lifetime in my lifetime.
The Hills: Season 5, Part 1
The epic season that was so massively important that it had to be released in two volumes! Or, just split into cheaper chapters to fit teenagers' budgets. Either/or.
Also out this week:
Van der Valk Mysteries: Set One Another hard-drinking detective, this one in Amsterdam. But aren't the best ones the hard drinkers? On TV, at least?
The Mary Tyler Moore Show: The Complete Fifth Season Is this the season with the dead clown? No? Next one? Right.
Red Dwarf: Back to Earth Actually a feature-length movie set after the last season. Very meta.
Get Smart: Season 4 Did the movie increase demand for these DVD sets? I don't see how.
Mister Ed: The Complete First Season This is just coming out now? How has this series been overlooked?
Stargate Atlantis: The Complete Series For those of you who crave Stargate Atlantis like a drug. You know who you are.
Bones: The Complete Fourth Season No bones about it, this season's finale sucked.
Six Feet Under: The Complete Series Sex, death and a pre-Dexter Michael C. Hall. Heaven.
