Today's TWoP News: Tuesday, December 29, 2009

New shows being developed! Old shows getting cancelled! New cast members joining! Old cast members getting fired! Guest stars! Arrest warrants! This is TWoP News!

Cagney and Lacey are coming back, both physically, in a reunion on the Jan. 21 episode of Burn Notice (Sharon Gless plays Michael's mom, and Tyne Daly guest-stars), and in spirit, inspiring a new lady-cop series called Jax and Amber. It's being created for CBS by CSI creator Anthony Zuiker, and one of the two women might be a lesbian.

Chris Albrecht, the man who helmed HBO while it developed its hits The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Band of Brothers, Deadwood, Six Feet Under and Entourage, is now going to do the same thing for Starz. Step one? Order a second season of Spartacus before the first even airs. The Starz empire will be built on the bones of its slain enemies!

Because she really wants to be Oprah, Tyra Banks has announced that she, too, is ending her talk show. Please, please, please don't start your own channel, Tyra.

Bravo has scored a hell of a guest judge for their fashion competition Launch My Line -- none other than Lady Gaga herself will judge outfits that have been designed for her in the Jan. 6th episode. Considering that each contestant is building a unified collection, we aren't sure how anything that Gaga would wear would fit into any of them, but maybe the designs will get more interesting for an episode. Afterwards, Gaga will climb on her space cycle and hunt down Real Housewife of Orange County Lynne Curtin, who has a warrant out for her arrest, because Gaga is, of course, a bounty hunter from the 25th century.

In sad news, Boy George has been legally forbidden from appearing on Celebrity Big Brother. In happy news, Paris Hilton has repeatedly turned down offers to appear on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Although, since we weren't going to watch it anyway, maybe it would have been nice to think about Hilton rolling around in bugs for a week.

Casting and de-casting news: Lafayette will get a boyfriend on True Blood, and Eliza Dushku's real-life boyfriend, ex-basketballer Rick Fox, will play an Active on Dollhouse. Meanwhile Nurse Mo-Mo has been de-activated for the second season of Nurse Jackie.

And finally, because kids have been demanding it, HBO has greenlit Ricky Gervais: The Animated Series.

I can only imagine Joel McHale's reaction on "The Soup" to the end of "Tyra" ("Well, there goes 42% of our best matterial"!)

HA! Okay, that made me laugh.

Unfortunately JK, I don't think Joel is going back to host The Soup. Think he's just going to concentrate on Community - which I love. Still think he could have juggled both - not as demanding as Kelly Ripa's schedule used to be - but oh well. Don't think I want to see anybody else as the host - the online Soup guy is terrible!!

Love Burn Notice. Kinda ironic that Gless got the Cagney role because TPTB thought Meg Foster came across as too butch.
