Be a Hero for Haiti

by TWoP Staff January 13, 2010 7:12 PM
Be a Hero for Haiti Jack Coleman, a.k.a. HRG on Heroes, has passed along a special -- and urgent -- message to TWoP: If any reader would like to contribute to relief efforts in Haiti in the wake of the recent devastating earthquake, please consider giving via Hollywood Unites for Haiti, a foundation created by Jimmy Jean-Louis, who plays "The Haitian" on the show. We've heard it's a great way to maximize your charitable dollars since there's less red tape involved. Donate here.

Reality Stars We'd Like To Hire for Personal Appearances

Apparently, if you want Snooki from Jersey Shore to be an inspirational speaker -- or, at the very least, a speaker -- at your event, the price is on the rise. However, her less fascinating counterparts Ronnie and his girlfriend Sammi Sweetheart are a bargain-priced package deal. Meanwhile, as I noticed while watching Giuliana & Bill (don't ask!), the first Apprentice winner is doing speaking engagements all over the country, which at least makes some sense since he won a reality show involving business savvy, as opposed to getting punched in the face. And lord knows that the Biggest Loser folks are making big bucks by acting as motivational speakers. So in light of all that, here are our picks for reality "stars" that we'd want to hire for very specialized personal appearances.

Today's TWoP News: January 13, 2010

There's plenty of actual TV news going on today, so there's no need to desperately hang on to rumors about talk show drama! ...Alright, Jimmy Kimmel dressed up as Leno was pretty good, we'll give you that.

Dorota the Mommy?: A Q&A with Gossip Girl's Zuzanna Szadkowski

For true Gossip Girl nuts above the -- well, let's face it, the real age you're supposed to watch shows like this -- the real star of the show is Dorota. Her common sense and biting lines are as reliable as Serena's hemlines and dumbassedness and Chuck's dreaminess. Sigh. Anyway, I caught up with Zuzanna Szadkowski at a party for the publication of You Know You Want It by Eric Daman (aka Gossip Girl's Costume Designer) at -- where else -- Bendel's! We dished about what's in store for a pregnant Dorota, and, of course, how Countess Dorota stacks up against Real Housewife of NYC Countess LuAnn de Lesseps.

People Who Could Fill Simon Cowell's Chair on American Idol

Well, he's been talking about it for years, but it's finally happening... Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol, which means that after the current season (which begins tonight), not one, but two of the original judges will be gone. Paula Abdul's seat has been filled by Ellen DeGeneres (how she'll fare remains to be seen), but the show has always revolved around Simon's cutting remarks and candid criticisms, so replacing him will be a much larger task. We've come up with some people who might be up for the job, or at least could be entertaining to watch while we wait for The X Factor to premiere.

TV on DVD: Tuesday, January 12, 2010

A bunch of DVDs were released this week that only super-fans of the shows will probably care about, but that non-fans should probably check out anyway, just so they can see what they're missing.

The X Factor = American Idol + America's Got Talent + Any Dream Will Do

After you've gotten over the shock of Simon Cowell leaving American Idol after this season (for real this time!), you may begin to wonder what the hell The X Factor is and how it's any different than Idol and if you should actually care about it. The answer is: sure. Without Cowell and Paula Abdul, Idol is going to be painful to watch, but X Factor offers some interesting features that Idol currently doesn't, which might actually result in a higher quality of talent coming out it. This basically means that instead of people voting based on cuteness, we might actually get some real vocalists, in the vein of former UK X Factor winner Leona Lewis.

How I Met Your Mother: We Talk to the Show's Two Dads About Episode 100

As big How I Met Your Mother fans, we're pretty excited about tonight's 100th episode, which not only features Tim Gunn (we're also big Runway fans), but also a musical number! We sat in on a conference call with show creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas to find out how the episode came about, what NPH abilities we don't know about and when we can expect to see the Broadway musical version of HIMYM.

Why NBC's Late-Night Mess Could Be Great for TV Fans While NBC's decision to move Jay Leno back to 11:35 PM and to try to make Conan accept a Leno-Fallon sandwich timeslot is aggravating for Conan fans and embarrassing for everyone involved (and may leave sad little Carson Daly unemployed), we're pretty psyched for it. If Conan ends up leaving NBC (and he really should) for Fox, as is being reported he likely will, that's great for Conan fans. And even if he stays, getting Leno out of primetime and freeing up all those timeslots is nothing but good news for a floundering NBC. Here's why.
