TV on DVD: Tuesday, January 26, 2010

TV shows don't have to be gender- or age-specific, but there's no denying the target demographic in this week's list. Come to think of it, these aren't so much of DVDs as they are DADs, as in your dad would probably enjoy most of them.

Southland: The Complete First Season (Uncensored)
This cop show's got a cult following, thousands of whom stalk our Southland forums. We were happy to hear that it found a home after NBC had to can it. If the ratings pick up on TNT, there could possibly be a (gasp) third season! Dare to dream!

Bonekickers
Somewhere in a development department, there is a group of writers working on a show about extreme skateboarding, kicking themselves for not grabbing the name Bonekickers before it was taken. Oddly enough, the BBC drama is about archaeologists who discover historical artifacts that lead them to wild adventures. While reviewers of the show are mixed at best, I'll just say it's very... niche.

Pawn Stars: The Complete Season 1
Speaking of wacky names, Pawn Stars has nothing to do with sex and instead everything to do with a family pawn shop. The show is marketed to be edgy, but it's really more like Antique Roadshow with attitude.

The Whitest Kids U' Know: The Complete Second Season
Miss March may have been a flop, but the dudes of this show know good sketch comedy. Maybe with enough time, they can write a movie with roots that are a little bit closer to their IFC series.

Parker Lewis: The Complete Second Season
Yes, this is exactly the show you're thinking of, "not a problem" and all, perfect for the super fan who has resorted to keeping an old, tape-recorded VHS copy in their basement for the past 19 years.

Also out this week:
The Waltons Movie Collection This collection is sure to make my dad cry, but then again, so does seeing his little girl turn into a young woman.
Dirty Jobs: Collection 5 I tried reading an interview with Mike Rowe about this season of Dirty Jobs, and couldn't even stomach the description.
Pie in the Sky: Series 2 Harry Potter's Uncle Vernon Dursley plays a zany cop/restaurant chef!
I Heart Jonas If you can spell the word "heart" correctly, you're probably too old to own this DVD.
