TV on DVD: Tuesday, Februrary 2, 2010

We're still in the "slow season" for TV on DVD releases, but there are a few DVDs worth mentioning and a bunch worth making fun of.

Doctor Who: The Complete Specials (Uncensored)
Jeez, there seems to be a new Dr. Who DVD released every week. But this one is special because it's the last hurrah of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor! The set includes the special episodes "The Next Doctor," "Planet of the Dead," "The Waters of Mars" and "The End of Time Part One & Two." If you can't decide whether or not to buy the Complete Specials or your individual favorites, perhaps the clip below of the best David Tennant moments will sway you in the appropriate direction.

She-Wolf of London: The Complete Series
I hate to say it, but I think we have to thank Twilight for the revival of classic gothic monsters, because without all the hype, we doubt '90s classics like She-Wolf would have ever been heard of again. The sexy, short-lived complete series is, in fact, complete, as it includes the six episodes of the show after the title changed to Love & Curses.

A Mind to Kill: The Complete First Series
The first season of the Welsh series that put the "blood" in "bloody" is now out for your gruesome viewing pleasure. Detective Noel Bain solves crime without science or technology, instead using his wit... Only in Wales, am I right?!

Head Case: Season 2
A series possibly worth checking out, based on its premise (a therapist to the stars) and insane amount of guest spots, from Jerry Seinfeld to Geri Halliwell. Naturally, I haven't seen it because it was on Starz, but it sounds like a live-action Dr. Katz. Any fans out there?

Wanda Sykes: I'ma Be Me
After watching her fantastic work on Curb over the years, I'm sure this Wanda Sykes stand-up special is hilarious. For a odd and pretty offensive bonus, check out Amazon's description of her sexuality: "Unsurprisingly, a big chunk of her performance tackles her life as a lesbian, but Sykes avoids anything sanctimonious or preachy."

Mister Ed: The Complete Second Season
This makes the perfect Valentine's day gift to that loved one from 1961 who you'll be going back in your time machine to visit, or for the handful of people who still find Mister Ed worth watching.

Beverly Hills 90210: Season 9
Is it safe to assume that the main reason people are buying this on DVD is to replace their VHS copies of Season 9?

Also out this week:
The Mary Tyler Moore Show: The Complete Sixth Season 20th Century Fox is really starting to crank out these seasons quickly, which must be exciting for fans.
Murder She Wrote: The Complete Eleventh Season An Amazon user points out that there's no info about closed-captioning on this DVD -- a valid complaint if you consider the demographic of people who would buy the 11th season of Murder She Wrote. We want answers!
Dynasty: Season 4, Vol. 2 What is this, throwback day? All of our senior TWoP readers must be excited!
Batman: The Brave and the Bold Vol. 3 Finally, one for the young folk! No NPH episode here, but a clever 'toon nonetheless.
