What if they hadn't killed off Jim? Then the delightfully dreamy husband wouldn't have done some weird sort of body-swapping thing and we could stomach watching this former guilty pleasure instead of viewing it as a Sixth Sense gone really wrong.

9. How I Met Your Mother
What if Ted hadn't told Robin he loved her on the first date? Then maybe their relationship would have progressed normally and they'd be a successful couple with kids by now. Story over.

8. House
What if Chase hadn't gotten fired and Foreman and Cameron hadn't quit at the end of Season 3? Then we wouldn't have had to suffer through Thirteen or the unnecessary deaths of CTB and Kutner and the show might still be its Emmy-worthy self.

7. Desperate Housewives
What if Susan had died in the plane crash? Then Mike Delfino could have married Robin the stripper, thereby making his son MJ very happy and giving Julie Benz a regular paying gig.

6. Supernatural
What if Dean had stopped Sam from killing Lilith? Then Lucifer wouldn't be back and all of these wacky comedy episodes wouldn't feel like time-wasters.

5. Grey's Anatomy
What if Meredith hadn't seen dead people during her near-drowning experience? Maybe then the show wouldn't have taken it as a precedent to have ghosts all over the damned place and we wouldn't have had to suffer through the Dead Denny arc.

4. The Office
What if Michael and Jan stayed together? They could have had more insane dinner parties, she would have been an amazing Bridezilla and we'd get to witness the horror of Michael with a baby as they raised her illegitimate love child.

3. Smallville
What if Lana had died in Season 3? Clark could have dated Chloe, and then Chloe could be Lois! Can't believe no one has else has raised this possibility.

2. American Idol
What if they'd never hired Kara? We might still have Paula around and not be subjected to the likes of Katy Perry, episodes might end on time and maybe Simon wouldn't have felt the need to get the heck off this show post-haste.

1. Heroes
What if Sylar hadn't survived after the Season 1 finale? The show would have been forced to come up with new intriguing villains each season and we wouldn't have to endure the formerly awesome Sylar turning into a co-dependent old maid who doesn't want to die alone.
